Pursuing a project FC - or not?

Basically, I'm a young post-secondary student and I really miss the rotary days. I've always liked the car (used to own an 88 FC), and have recently been considering borrowing some money (from parents, so no major debt) to pursue working on an S5 Turbo II as a project. My rotary knowledge is low but I'm willing to learn, and my mechanical skills aren't really spectacular. I also don't have access to a lot of do-it-yourself tools like engine hoists or what have you. The car would have to be sitting in a locked up detached garage for much of the year - I realize that the longer it sits, the harder it could be to get running again.

Anyway, I'm thinking about taking this project on and saving up and slowly adding to the FC when the money becomes available; starting with perhaps even a total rebuild for the engine and reliability mods, then interior/exterior at the end. But with the little experience I have and the time it would take to save up... is this a bad idea? Perhaps more over my head than I imagine?

Also for the record I'm thinking just buying a S5 T2 either running or not... it seems NA to T2 conversions are quite difficult to do (engine, transmission, ECU, etc...?) Is one of these (running or not, NA or T2) a smarter option than the other?

Feedback severely appreciated. Help me with my early-mid-life car crisis =\

no. Learn as much as you can first (research) and then decide whether it's a wise choice at this moment in time.

It's really up to you. I've owned 2 N/A FC's before I got my JDM FC Chasis and decided to piece it together starting with a J-Spec Turbo 2 Motor, trans, ECU. I know it's going to take a while to get it completed, but that's the fun of it.

Get an NA, learn it inside and out before you get a TII.

I would either get the NA, since you dont have a lot of disposable cash, or wait.

I've been through 7 RX7's now and eventually ended up converting an S5 NA. I converted absolutely EVERYTHING to a TII. I took my time with it and with all the selling of extra parts and finding good deals, my 7 is basically free. now i'm in the "upgrade stage"

finding a decent running S5 NA to study and learn about then upgrade later isn't all that hard to do.

good luck, have fun.
