Not doin anything today i came up with an idea..

I know that some people purge nitrous onto the intercooler to make it nice and frosty... But i dont want to pay 600 for a nitrous kit and purge lines and i dont need nitrous either. I was thinking of another kind of gas, oxygen? No.. flammable. Propane? hell no... Co2? Why not, I've got some old paintball canisters around. Hook up the 2 canisters to a Y connector pipe fitting, and have some piping going to a hand valve and then into the engine bay where it will be sprayed into the intercooler for a nice frosty effect.

thats not a bad idea. Im not sure about the conflicts that this may cause but it sounds like a damn good alternative to using NO2 if you arent injecting it into your engine.

 

Yeah.. I was wondering that myself... Might not want to spray too much... Or it will get sucked into the intake... Then i need to get a Cai box.... haha

I've tried this, it's hard to actually get the c02 to spray COLD on a tmic. The pressure decreases if it travels upwards, causing it to lose it's coldness.

 

people use compressed CO2 for that, nitrous will feed more oxygen to your engine, CO2 won't affect it, and is a safe gas.
But I believe you'd have to used the same sort of equipment as you would use with nitrous, maybe you could use some keyboard cleaner (compressed air) if its just for autocross or drag racing

 

Hmm... Intresting, What about in a compressed line? So its just like its in the bottle still.... SS braided line or something? This sounds like it starting to need solenoids and ****....

 

well, if you use it too much and suck CO2 ino your engine your gonna get a lot of carbon buildup. and i have also tried this. its really hard to get CO2 to spray cold.

 

So basically you're talknig about venting a compressed gas onto the exterior of the intercooler? Hrm, seems that most people have not too good of luck with it. Strange, the few setups I saw seemed to have OK results. Guess I'll have to research a little more before I comment.

 

When it sprays out of my paintball bottle its ****** COLD... it will burn you its so cold... Frosts up the bottle forsure... So if it were in a compressed line with a solenoid at the end... It would be like its coming out of the bottle, not going through uncompressed lines and having time to heat up... Correct?

 

Umm...carbon buildup is not caused by CO2 gas. In fact, the engine will not burn hot enough to break C02 into Carbon and Oxygen. For CO2 gas to contribute to the buildup it would have to break down since it's just Carbon that adds to the buildup.

Of course, if you get large amounts into the combustion chamber then it would take space from the Oxygen and less fuel would burn and that would lead to carbon buildup, but honestly, you'd have to spray the **** directly into the intake. I don't think some spraying on the IC would be enough to cause a difference.

youre right, it does get cold when coming out of a paintball gun, but i have a 9oz can in my hand right now, and i can spray it on my hand and its not very cold.

 

Serious? When i'm undoing the gun from the bottle it ices up the bottle and the bottom of the gun.. and i've been burnt from it too

 

Why don't you just make a water injection kit, or go buy one. They do have spray kits for intercooler's as Im sure you know but paying the $500 seems hardly worth it plus I know their for fmic's buy I'm not sure about tmic's

 

my family sells painball supplies. if you let a large ammount out of one hole, the container will get cold, but not the gas. the co2 is cold for a very breif moment, but it will quickly dilute into the air. if i spray a bunch onto my hand, it will hurt, but the ammount it will take to "freeze" your IC for a reasonable amount of time is not worth it. i think the NOS sprayers are wet kits. a liquid under pressure will reamin cold for a while, thats why if you take an arosol duster and turn it upside down you can freese stuff, but the air that comes out is not very cold.

 

It depends on how compressed it is. What kind of 9oz can is it? At about 60psi it sure is cold on venting.

 

Hmm... Your right... i opened the bottle... and where the nozzle was it made freeze but if i held my hand in front of it it was not very cold....

GUYS! its called CryO2 I believe, its a company like NOS, and they make kits for specifically to spray the IC really really cold...they also make a purpe CO2 kit for those you dont want to use a lot of money paying to purge w/ NO2.

Cant believe I'm the first one to say something about them....There kits are only a couple hundred dollars and they work very well from what I've heard.

 

What kind of can are you spraying on your hand? I don't know about you but my paintball tank kind of froze the skin on my hand...

 

Um, no it's not. Air is 23% oxygen gas, so if it was flammable I think we'd all know by now...

 

Yeah, its a 12 oz tank... Pure energy, the metal that touches the push pin on the top of the tank gets hella cold, but the air that is emitted from the gun is not that cold....


EDIT: Maybe because both the tanks were very close to empty?

 

I did used 5/16" ss dish washer hose, you might want to try something smaller, that would help. And also maybe mount the bottle with the nozzle pointing downwards. Maybe in the glove box?
