Purge control valve issues; searched.. confused.

Okay my car is running and idling fine, I haven't drove it yet because of clutch issues.
It doesn't seem to have vacuum lines, but I realized that I don't have a Purge control valve anymore.
I completely overlooked it when I was hooking up the emissions equipment.
I found it under the car and it doesn't look broke but there is a piece of the bottom nozzle broke off in the vac line.
It isn't enough to make it not work, so I was considering cutting that line or replacing it all together.
Then just hooking the PCV up since it doesn't look like it suffered any damage other than a small piece of the nozzle being broke off.
Now, after searching the topic for the past couple hours I've got a pretty good idea of what the PCV does.
I found a thread that listed a way to setup a ghetto oil catch can; 20oz bottle and a rag.
Running the vac lines to the bottle I guess?
I didn't really understand this at all.
So I was wondering if anyone could give me some input about whether I should just try to get the factory pcv setup or setup a oil catch can.
I recently lost my job so I DON'T have money to buy the ebay catch can like others have done.
In case it matters; I do have all the factory emissions, equipment, cold start system, etc.

Thanks for any help, sry about the long post.
I just like to consider my options.

If the plastic nipple on the bottom of the PCV broke off, it is bad. You will need a new one. You can't just continue to connect the PCV while ignoring that line, you will create a vacuum leak. It is very common to have that bottom nipple break off, I have seen many broken, myself included. I have learned the lines from the bottom need to be surgically cut off with a sharp blade. Any other method will result in the plastic end snapping off.

If you don't have the money for a catch can, your best bet is just to find a used PCV in the classifieds section of the forum, and MAKE SURE the seller guarantees all 3 nipples are in tact. Then just be careful when installing and you will be good to go.

On an N/A, I recommend the factory setup. If you want to add a catch can to your car, keep the factory setting, but just "tee" into the line going off the oil filler to the PCV. Basically it will be:

Line from oil filler neck -----> catch can -----> PCV

You get all the benefits of a fully vented crankcase and all the gunk goes to the catch can. Don't bother with any other method, especially when you already have all your emissions equipment installed.
