I dorve by one cop on the highway at around 6000rpm coming to a toll booth, he pulled me over and told me my car sounded like a tank. haha I took that as a compliment.

FYI, up here in NH, its up to the cops to say if your exhaust is to loud or not. Bascailly just use common sence. I have heard great reviews from Racing Beats exhaust.

The thing that pisses me off, MA is trying to ban all aftermakret exhaust on automotives, but there are still 900,000 bike that no rotary could ever be louder than.

In FL, any aftermarket exhaust that is louder than the OEM exhaust is illegal and can get you pulled over. Its just not always enforced, you just got the *** hole cop that day, sorry. The only advice is to just pay the ticket and move on unless you're going to install a system that has the same or less decibles than the stock system.

I read your link to Fl statutes, and mostly what I got from reading it is that in the case you had a defective exhaust, the cop has the right to pull you over. It mentioned nothing about decibel levels at all, mostly safety concerns from defective equipment. ****** cops!

Most aftermarket NA exhausts are loud. Personally I can't imagine driving around with something like the N1 or it's clones.

The only high quality and quiet exhaust for the NA is made by Racing Beat. But it's going to cost you...

I will accept a ticket from a cop for a noise violation when they start ticketing motor cycles. As far as the statute he put on the ticket and a defective exhaust, Unless he is a mechanic he is not qualified to make that call unless your crap is dragging the ground. It will cost you mor emoney to fight it than it is probably worth, but I would fight it on principle. Screw the friggin cops, they want to write BS tickets let them write them, but take it to court. If you think you have a case which I think in this instance you do fight it.

As for the statement that any system louder than stock is illegal, let's see some statutes on that, because your way off.

Simple fact is if a harley or a US muscle car goes buy blaring the cops are like "yeaahhhh" but if it is made in japan watch out. It is getting out of hand. Again this is what happens when the government steps out side of their box.

Go to court, plead guilty, and explain to the judge that your car has a rotary engine and its naturally louder based on its design. The cop that pulled you over should know the difference, or maybe you should have reminded him/her at that moment that your car has a rotary, and ask them to inquire about it before fining you.
#1 is your manners with the judge and the officer, they have you bent, ask for it nicely!

Also, if you have emissions, and your car passed emissions with your 'loud' exhaust, then have that information too. This could get deep!

Statute 316.293

(5) NOISE ABATEMENT EQUIPMENT MODIFICATIONS.--
(a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle or any other noise-abatement device of a motor vehicle operated or to be operated upon the highways of this state in such a manner that the noise emitted by the motor vehicle is above that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured. (b) No person shall operate a motor vehicle upon the highways of the state with an exhaust system or noise-abatement device so modified.

I would get a Muffler system that meets the CARB 95 db level requirement. Most name brand exhausts will do that.
Greddy evo evo2 or PE comes to mind because of their bigger than most canisters and premufflers.
Apex'i will also do the same as long as you do not buy the N1.
Racing Beat makes a high quality exhaust and is obviously a great company but I think its a little too quiet.

'Tis true about the muscle cars not getting ticketed. My friend has a 2001 Integra GSR with the DC Sport header and Greddy cat-back exhaust with a stock cat, and he's been pulled over a few times because the officers said it was too loud. Now, I can go passed those same cops with my g/f's 5.0 Mustang which has Ford Racing headers to 2.5" true duals with generic mufflers that dumps under the rear axle and they don't even think twice. It's pretty well crap that imports recieve so much **** for what they are. Makes me want to just take the exhaust off my RX-7 and drive around town for a while. It's true though, rotaries are louder than piston engines, and should have different qualifications for the ehxuast. My stock exhaust was louder than some aftermarket exhausts that I've heard.

The muscle car thing is dead on here in Tennessee. My dad and I both are big into cars, me my RX-7, and my dad does muscle cars. Our neighbor who works part time for the local Sheriff's department came over and complained about my exhaust and told I needed to quiet it down. Mind you, I have an GSL-SE with an S4 TII with both a Borla and a Supertrapp muffler inline. I will admit it was a little annoying because I was trying to hunt down so running issues and the car was backfiring, but I am at my house at about 11AM. While his complaint would be valid and understandable, the fact that the next week he had my dad take him for a ride in his 917hp, 540ci Big Block Pro Street 69 Camaro that rumbled everything when it was started just goes to show he has the import hater mentality. He even told my dad he could listen to his Camaro for hours. Close-minded people are everywhere.

Don't forget the Borla cat-back... I'd be interested in comparing to see if its a little closer to a "stock tone", than the RB. Plus, the Borla was almost $100 USD cheaper than the RB item.

It would be cool if you could go and update the exhaust and have the ticket waived or reduced. That way you don't pay $1000 for the ticket and $1000 to update your exhaust. I'd say a ticket that costs as much as the upgrade ... doesn't really encourage me the way it could.

I've ran it through first and second at a stoplight with a cop right behind me and havent gotten **** for my RB mufflers/2.5' Y pipe and the stock header. My friend had the full RB system and it sounded great, not loud at all. He didn't get **** either, stick with RB, when its a little dirty it almost looks stock.

I stand corrected, usually our lovely laws are not so black and white. Or easily read.

sadly my dd civic has been without ANY exhaust for a few months now (hey im lazy and its a pile) and i drive by cops quite a bit and never get pulled over. and you better bet its very loud and extremely obnoxious.

on the mororcycle thing. here in colorado, dont know about anywhere else, we have some law now about noise you have to get it tested and have some sticker on your muffler or something. dont know im not into bikes.

when i had my 2nd gen i hate an rb header/cat and stock mufflers, it was loud, also never got pulled over. guess im just gloating i dont know

up here in british columbia (canada) i never have troubles with cops and my exhaust...and my exhaust is LOUD. what i have is a race header (no spot for cats) full 2.5 to a n1 style magnaflow muffler. people say they can hear me coming blocks away and thats just cruising. i've had a cop pull me over on the highway going uphill and all he cited me for was a burnt out brake light...didn't mention the exhaust system at all.
