PS pump/lines

soooo... something is wrong with mine week or so ago my power steering went by by and was makin a mess of noise, checked fluid as soon as i pulled over and empty, so i had the gf pick me up some fluid and put it in when she got to me. bled it, test drove and it was great again. 2 days later it did it again. sooo i was thinkin my pump went bye bye since it went dry but after putting fluid in its still golden, i checked for leaks all around up top and none visible. im going to have to tear down the debri shield thing from under the bay to see the lines underneath but thats where im at. i put fluid in today left the car runnin for a little looked under the car and there was a puddle on the cement, so i know its not staying in there long. if anyone has had a leak problem, where should i pay close attention to when i pull it all down, im worried since the PS fluid is clear its going to be a b#$%& to find. any feedback would be great. thanks!

well since you say its clear PS fluid im positive you got the wrong fluid. FC's use Type F auto tranny fluid (its red)

second, they most likey leak around the fittings or where the fitting meets the rubber hose.

its kind of a PITA to replace them cause the other end of the hoses reach wayy down into the steering rack and depending if you have a/c or not its even more of a PITA cause you cant really move the compressor out the way enough to get a good view of the lines.

the best thing to do is remove the belt. and then remove the hoses and check the hoses to see if they have any splits or bubbles/bruises. of course that means ripping off the foam cover (but thats not really necessasry to have and can make spotting a PS leak harder cause they soak up alot of fluid before they start to actually drip on the ground)

you can get a good set of hoses from the junk yard provided they look good and have no damage to them. if you cant find a good set then find your local machinist or hydralics person and have them put your old fittings on some new hoses. which is a lot cheaper than buying brand new lines

Yea, just ATF in there. You can rip it all out and do a manual conversion like I detailed in the archives, or you can replace the pump. If it's leaking it's probably the fittings or hose. One thing that often fails is the bearings, but that doesn't quite sound right for your description. I've got a working pump at home, if you want I'll sell it cheap, but some of the lines have been cut.
