propeller shaft problem

well as the title states, i believe im experiencing a problem with my propeller shaft. about a week ago i replaced my clutch. upon taking off the propeller shaft and replacing it i DID mark its position on the differential and replaced to the original position. however, i still am experiencing a vibration. i checked to make sure all nuts and washers are on tight. they were. then upon consulting the trusty shop manual i realized that i was apparently supposed to mark and replace the washers as originally positioned? now i cant see how the position of those washers could have such an effect, but i have checked all other parts of the driveline and everything else seems fine. my question is; will this annoying noise persist if the washers are left as-is? is it detrimental to performance or functionality in anyway? is there any way short of trying every possible combination of the washers (which according to the math there are 24 possible combinations) and then test driving each time? PLEASE HELP. by the way, i have an 86 gxl. thanks in advance.

yeah that is what the factory manual says to do. Or perhaps a driveshaft shop could balance it for you?

do you know of any price range for getting it balanced at a shop by any chance?

I had my driveshaft redone at a shop, they replaced both u-joints with greasable ones and balanced the driveshaft for about $110 last year.

I don't get that washer thing either. The FSM shows them as weighted washers, but I've never seen that. Maybe they get lost over time from clutch changes, etc. I am not experiencing any vibrations with mine gone.

The FSM also says that if the new shaft vibrates to try switching around the washers... well if it could still vibrate when you put them back in the right order, what the hell is the point? Also, if the weights balance the flange that connects to the differential, the new flange would require different weights...

If my current DS goes, I'll be getting mine re-done with greasable/rebuildable ends.
