Project GTU

Well, now that I'm working, making the big bucks , it's time that the RX-7 finally gets some work done.

I was going to save up for the Mazdatrix dual-presilencer system (the ultimate N/A FC exhaust) but a $1200 exhaust system on a $1700 car is just too tough to swallow. Besides, the crappy exhaust system that was on it succumbed to the rotary and cracked, leaving me with only one muffler. Not good. So cat-back comes first. After much research, I have determined that, as much as I hate to do it, a single exhaust is the best route to take. What it lacks in aesthetic balance it makes up for in being MUCH cheaper and MUCH lighter. Unfortunately it also means I'm going to have to suffer a larger exhaust tip than I usually tolerate.

That's what it looks like. Yeah, it looks lopsided, though at least it vaguely resembles the FC's exhaust in Initial D. The exhaust comes from Cork Sport (looks like a knock off of the $600 JDM systems) and costs only $289 for stainless steel.

Depending on the condition of the rest of the system, I may immediately go on to a Racing Beat header and presilencer (and ditch the three cats once and for all!) or move onto suspension mods. I have my rear control arm bushings, I'm thinking I might do all the bushings at once and get it over with. Parts-wise it's nothing but labor would be a killer - I don't have a lift and I HATE working on a car up on jackstands.

Here's what I'm looking at, I'm open to suggestions on what order I do this in or any other things I should/should not do:

Cork Sport exhaust
Energy Suspension urethane suspension bushings
Mazdatrix Rear Toe Eliminator bushings
Racing Beat Suspension Kit (springs and swaybars)

I know tires are very important, but they have to wait until I can get rims - I don't want to move up to 17s, and in 16s these are my choice (I'm getting a good deal by getting wheels from this company, before you ask why :p):

Either Silver:

or Gunmetal:

That is looking tight. Since this is goint to be a show car, I would go with teh gun-metal wheels. They are the current "fad" and you might get more tropheys

Why not buy the $600 duals that are near "N1" flow?

Cause they're $600 vs. $289...

I'm simply concerned with the durability of a custom bent exhaust on a rotary. Lots of mufflers won't hold up and the mild steel that was put on the car in 1999 is already falling to pieces.
