Sounds like it's in limp mode. It's probably your Oil Metering Pump...

ok. Be very detailed please.

1. do a quick tune up (sparkplug, wires, fuel filter, intake, fluid changes etc.,etc.)

2. look for vaccuum leaks (check the intake tube and vaccuum lines)

3. check your TPS

4. make sure your 5th and 6th ports are opening

5. if you don't know what I'm talking about them search this forum for these items.

the second Gen section has several stickies at the top and you'll find this thread in the stickies:https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/frequently-asked-questions-2nd-generation-rx-7-faq-fc-494667/

in that thread you'll find this:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...18#post5131218

download the S5(series5; 1989-1992) FSM(Factory Service Manual aka your new bible.)

make sure you have the necessary tools, vac lines and voltmeter in order to diagnose your car. If you can follow simple written instructions then you shall have no problem. If your reading skills are not up to par then I suggest you get a new job so others can work on your 7 or get rid of the car all together.

The best thing to do before you start replacing anything is to pull the engine codes stored. There is single green connector near the the battery. Jumper that to ground with a wire and then turn the ignition key to the ON position. The check engine light will blink to give you the codes that are stored. Then go here to figure out what the codes correspond to.

ok, I did a little research ( i noticed that a lot of the symptoms the OP posted were similar to mine) and the STEPPING MOTOR is the Oil Metering Pump (OMP). In order to get to it you have to remove the front cover and blah blah blah. I think I'm going to disable the OMP and just premix from now on. It should cost me LESS than 4000 bux though.

Sounds like he is trying to say the car is in limp mode because the OMP is bad, a used OMP can be had here for around $50. All you need to replace it is time and a gasket. If you have an S5 if you remove the OMP it will stay in limp mode unless you use an RTek or a standalone.
