problems: weird electricals

okay.. first off ive been having starting problems. and the motor is down right now with assumed coolant leak. however ive got other problems.. one being.

lately when ive cranked it with the EGI fuse in the tach bounces everywhere between 1500-500 while cranking, it cranks slowly/unevenly, then when it catches, the tach dies. however with the EGI fuse out, it cranks quickly and evenly.

where do i even begin looking here?

check your trailing coil. tach comes off of that. might be an intermittent misfire.

would that cause the tach to die for 5 minutes at a time?
