problems w/ intereior accessories

Hi This is my first time posting here and I looked through the archives here and couldn't find this problem discussed very well. Anyway I have an 88 FC and I have removed the factory car stereo and put in a new Sony CD player. However the mounting kit I purchased wouldn't allow me to put the CD player in so it was broken in order for it to fit. This is an eye sore and also it makes it look very unprofessional. Do you know why it would do this, and if there is another way of mounting the CD player in there Id really like to know.

Also I take it that the cracks in the screw holes of the rear speakers in hatchback models were a car defect (deus to heat perhaps)

the plastic in S4's (86-88) is very brittle.

When I got my car it had a ton of missing pieces, including the entire radio surround from when the previous owner installed a headunit and cracked the hell out of it.

The S5's (89-91) are better, and the surrounds have a soft flexible vinyl covering I think. Don't know, as I've only been in S4's (well, FB's and FD's too but wrong generation)

I have a 91' TII and the surround like Node said is very soft and isn't cracked nearly as easy I would guess that you could get one out of a 89-91 and get the matching gear shift peice and put that in it's place but I am not 100% on the fitting I never owned an S4

you don't need the shift surround to make it fit you can use your old one
