Well, when I first dropped in my JSpec there were a few bad vaccum lines and others that I had nothing going to due to it being a jspec engine and that caused it to die on random.

Mainly on startup or stops. May not be it in your case but vaccum lines make a huge difference.

so, it might only be that it needs a good complete tune up ,
all the oils (engine, tranny, clutch, brake, coolant, diff) , spark plugs & wires, all the filters (oil, fuel, air), 02 sensor, tps, new vacuum hoses, like all this at the dealer how much would it cost !??

and im thinking of changing the alternator too !!

let me remind you that the car is a 88 N/A !! 180 000 km (im from canada )

most reasons for old 7's to stall is the vacume lines. mazdatrix sells a vacume kit for 35-40 bucks. it expensive at all and it should cure the problem

My car had this problem for a while, and the two main sources were the improperly set Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) and the idle screw setting . Now it works great! Vacuum leaks are also a common problem as noted above.

My car is a series 5 (S5), so it is a little bit different in these areas than yours. But if you do some searching, them you can find instructions on how to check the TPS and idle screw settings.
