Problems with my 87

I just bought an 87 RX7/non turbo. I finally got it started thanks to the article on rx7.com. I put in brand new plugs and now I have a few other issues. The first is that when idling, the motor shakes real hard. When I try to drive the car is has almost no power. I am new to rotory's so an ideas are appreciated.

Thanks.

I would suggest a compression check to make sure that all surfaces still have good compression, it is possible that it has one or two broken apex seals that lead to an unbalance engine, roughh idle, and no power.

After that you should check the vacuum hoses to make sure you don't have a humungous leak, especially including tight intake hose to the afm. Make sure your spark plug wires are correctly matched. The front coil should go to the bottom of each rotor housing, the rear coils should go to their respective front and rear top plug.

Hope that helps, and what part of Atlanta are you in?

your only running on one rotor. mine sat for 3 years and did the same thing. after i put new plugs, wires, and fuel pump, and injectors in i finally got it started and it shook like crazy. like it had a huge cam (haha) and i couldnt figure out why, and one day i just let it run for a while and i dunno what happened but i heard a "pff" and then it quit shaking and ran perfect... like something was stopped up and all the sudden the other rotor kicked in. check and make sure your wires are right. and that you hav ethe right type of spark plugs in it. there are 2 different types of spark plugs it should have. 2 leading plugs and 2 trailing plugs. on each coil it will say L1, L2, and T1,T2... next to the spark plugs on the block you will see those same markings, follow the wires and make sure they match up. only other option is do a compression check and if the compression in both rotor housings are good then check and see wich fuel injector is clogged. but yea, its shaking real bad cuase your only running on one rotor, im almost positive. it revs up real slow too right? rx7s rev real fast normally

Thanks for the info

Thanks for all the info. I have the manual and was planning a compression check next. It looks fairly involved unlike a standard motor. I read the manual and followed the instructions on the plugs and have verified that they are correct. BTW im on the other side of town from you (sar), im in Loganville. I guess I go ahead and do the compression check and go through some normal tune up stuff like injector cleaner and see what results I get. The other wierd thing is that it seems like it idles fine without shaking until I rev it, once I rev it and it goes back to idle, it starts shaking real hard.
