Problems keeping the motor running... Any suggestions?
Hey fellow club members. So I got a new rx7 and cannot seem to keep this thing running. It's an 86 gxl with about 88k miles. Guy that dropped it off said it was sitting for several years before he got it. When he got it he replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. He drove it for about 67 miles then it basically bogged down and wouldn't stay running for more than 3 seconds when he tried starting it.
Now....
I have the same problem. To me, it seems as if it is flooding, but any other suggestions as to what it might be would help point me in the right direction. I will do my best to get a video of the problem up ASAP as to help you understand what I am working with.
Thanks in advance,
Nick

bad primary injector, injector clip or the ground strap on the rear rotor housing is loose or corroded..
seem to be getting a rash of these with this problem lately, compression sounds fine.
if it sounds like a lawnmower it is only running on one rotor, ie the video.

Just a little update.
The AMF is plugged in. I've checked all the vacuum lines I could find. I don't have a spare anymore to see if the on there is bad. Still checking grounds. Is there any way to check the injectors?

With that being said, I'm hoping it is just the maf.
Ill update as soon as I check it out!
Thanks again guys
So the maf wasn't open. Seemed to function properly. Not entirely sure what it could be. Haven't had time to check the voltage of the injectors. Any other things that may be the cause of this lack of running would be helpful.
Thanks again,
Nick

It sounds like your timing is right. maybe get a fuel pressure gauge and test your fuel pressure between the filter and the inlet line, rent one if you have to. Mine read about 30+ ish psi (i think) last time I checked mine.
It could also be a giant vac leak, or the coolant temp sensor (under the alternator on the pump housing), they're also know for giving running issues.
Are you able to keep it running by playing with the throttle?

Maybe the fuel lines are flip flopped (Inlet for outlet)... Vacuum at cranking/idle might open the fuel pressure regulator- unless it's hooked up through the rats nest with the solenoid valves. (Is it the orange one? Can't remember)
Also, it sounds like it might only be running on one rotor... What's that all about?
