PROBLEM!!!! need help

PROBLEM!!!! need help

Ok, so heres the deal. I bought an 87 turbo II...guy said all it needed was fuel pump and radiator....so i bought both and also brand new spark plugs.....its cranking but it goes all the way to 4k rpm then cuts off....like completey dies......what to do...lol....and also....i tore out the carpet and was wondering what yall recomend for the bottom....its gonna be my track car so it needs to be light but also its gonna be a daily driver....er...weekend driver....anyway....why is it cuttin off at 4k?

Is the AFM plugged in? If not, the the car will start, rev up then immediately die.

oh yea....it is plugged in...but i have no air filter in the box and the top of the box is off...but thats not gonna do anything....is there anything else that will make it do that like the vacuum lines?

I wasn't trying to give you a smart comment. I was saying the FAQ is actually worthwhile on this board. I ignored it too, then I realized it has alot of the info you need to know. Alot of the abreviations and such. Just check it out bro, relax.

i did....but do you think it could be anything else but the MAF sensor?

1. We don't have a MAF. We have AFM's.

2. Does it start and run for about 2-3 seconds then die?

Could also be a cracked TID. You are looking at either a bad AFM or a big air leak most likely.

afm and maf are the same to me...lol....but yea...it starts...revs up to 4g then dies....within 5 seconds of turning the key

So just why won't you write back and state whether or not you checked to see if the AFM is/is not plugged in?
