Question Pressurizing or filling the fuel system line

I know that there is a yellow connector on the passenger side fender, and that with the key in the run position and then jumpering this connector it causes the fuel pump to turn on. (right?)

My question is: when this is done, is the excess fuel returned to the tank?

Tomorrow I am going to make the last preparations before firing up the rebuilt engine in my 1991 N/A and in addition to turning the engine over to circulate the coolant and oil, I wanted to check that the fuel system was filled as well.

All fluids were drained from the engine and support systems, oil, coolant and gas so I want every thing to be 'refilled' before I let the engine fire-up!

Thanks

The fuel that isn't injected flows back to the tank via the return line. Since the engine won't be running when you do this, it'll all return to the tank.

and if it doesn't all return, don't start the engine. as that means it's all over the floor

Ha ha ha, you three guys are very funny, notice that the replies that I got to this question was only by the few of you that have ~ 6000 posts each! ( over 18,000 between you!)

Any way Jason, I would think that not all of the fuel is returned to the tank, the lines would surely stay full of fuel?

As long as the fuel pump is a pumpin.....the fuel will continuoustly run from the tank, thru the rails and back to the tank and repeat that cycle on and on and on, but maintaining an approx 38-40 psi in the rails all the time. It does not pressurize the rail and then shut off, it keeps on a pumpin and a flowin.

Post 6002, I might add. Leaving Mr Jason in my dust!

Now that Mr. Hailers' dust has cleared, I'll rephrase.

If the engine's not running, the same amount of fuel that's taken from the tank is returned to the tank.
