Yeah I get the ******* every time I clean the engine bay too. I think the "sparkling / eat off of it" ones you see were steam cleaned or torn down, powder coated & painted, and re-assembled. Even then I still don't know how they got the caked on tar & greese out betwen the nooks & crannies.

Do a search on "engine bay clean" and you should see some of the previous discussion. Some people dilute purple power & pre-soak before cleaning. After it's clean I've seen people using (on a cold engine) something like Armor all to shine all the plastic & rubber hoses.

Note I think using pressure is bad, so stick with a garden hose. Also only clean a cold engine.

I've decided I'm leaving it to the pros at the car wash to do the engine bay 1-2 times yearly, but I'll handle everything else.

Whats the deal with the caddy?

Cover ignition and if it has a cone filter in the engine bay cover that. Its still somewhat a of a crapshoot at times depending on cracked or frayed wiring.

And don't forget the alternator (I just remove mine when I pressure wash the engine & bay).
