Power windows diagnosis

hey guys when I got my S5 rx7 the switch on the passenger side did not work, but the drivers worked fine for both windows up and down

I took both switches apart today and cleaned everything. The passenger switch looks new, while the drivers looked black and toasted. They both look really good now.

When I installed them again, the results did not change. The passenger did not work. I ever used a screwdriver to manually push the little pegs to see if anything would change.

The drivers switch works good. Controls both windows and everything. Does anyone know what could be wrong? All wires and connecters on passenger look good and should work...

is the lock override on the drivers switch on? (or busted?)

from memory, the passenger wires go all the way to the drivers switch then back (to the window) their could be a fault there as well

I tried it while flipping the lock on the drivers side. No difference.

How would I diagnose it if the passenger goes back to driver? This is confusing.. So it is in parallel wiring you mean? Seems odd if drivers work and passenger doesnt when drivers need passenger in order for it to work

At the passenger switch to get the window to go down the Black/Blue wire needs to have voltage. Does it? You can also check the passenger motor by placing voltage on the G/B wire and a ground on the R/B wire and the window should go down. Reverse the two and the window should go up. To get the window to go down from using the driver switch the Green/White wire should have voltage and the Red/White wire should have a ground.

And, to suppliment Satch, assuming you get the window to go down with direct power, use an OHM meter to check for continuity in the passenger switch. If the switch checks out, then wiring is broken between the drivers side switch and the passenger switch as all power to the passenger side switch runs through the drivers side switch.

Bottom line, either power isn't getting to the window regulator for what ever reason, or the motor/regulator is toast and needs replacement. The latter part is readily available on this forum.

OP, if I read your post correctly, your windows both work fine from the driver's switch.

Test the pass. switch with a multimeter as a previous poster suggested. Cleaning sometimes doesn't fix it.
