Power window shaking problem.

When I'm lowering my driver's side power window, it goes about 2 inches just fine then begins to shake all the way down.

I took the door apart for other reasons last night and noticed that there's this thick cable with springs type thing just dragging along the bottom of the door and hanging loose when you open and close it and I'm assuming that it's probably some sort of balancing device.

I hunted a bit, but couldn't find where it goes. Anyone have a good clue?

Thanks!

Well, it feels good that I'm not the only one with the problem.

I'm trying to check the shop manuals when people aren't bugging the crap outta me at work, but I'll I've found so far are the wiring diagrams for the circuit.

if the window is stopping/sticking on the way down, chances are the tracks are dirty and mis-aligned.

eh..... it only happens to mine when it's humid out. I came to the conclusion that it was getting caught up on the seal at the bottom of the window.

Good lord I got the same damn thing. Sometimes to drivers window seems to shake on the way down, and the passenger window is slow as molasses, but it does make it up and down.

Not related to the motor... the switch(s) needs cleaning or replacing

I got that problem too, only it stops halfway down and I have to "help" it back up. Come to think of it, my driver side door panel has been sitting in my house since the day I bought the car a few months ago.

You guys should re-grease the tracks with lithium grease and clean the power window contacts.
Can you imagine 15+ years of usage? And people complain our parts are fragile??

when i first got my 87, the guy before me wired the the passenger window to the driver side switch and now both windows go down from one switch and the passenger side goes up verrry slooow because its just stealing power from the driver side.

and oh yeah that springy thingy dragging in your window should have a cover on it, and it has nothing to do with how the window goes up and down.

It does move when the window is in operation though. It's irritating when you shut the door and you can here it twang. Makes my FC sound like the body panels are shaking in fear or something.

I did clean my contacts while I was in there though, and the chattering on the driver's side is still a problem, which I didn't expect it to fix anyways.

I do have to grease up the passenger's side though, that puppy is pretty goobed up. I just didn't have the time today.
