Power Window Roller PM

91 vert

While I'm waiting for some parts to arrive (one being a pax window regulator rebuild from Window Regulator USA - The best quality rebuild regulators and repair service! With over 25 years of research and development.) I decided to do some preventive maintenance on the drivers window. I was following a post on 3rd gen but figured it would be about the same, mainly just clean and grease.

Rollers are suppose to roll aren't they? Mine didn't, well some didn't and the rest didn't roll very easily. I noticed that the drivers window seemed to have a shim on it, it was one that rolled. I moved the shim to the other roller and it made it worse. (pic 1).

After looking at it, it is just a simple roller over a bushing, where the bushing is just a little longer than the roller. I guess after 20 years the roller may have expanded. For grins I sanded the roller a little and got it to where the bushing extended out of the roller just a smidgen.(pic 2) Guess what, it now rolls.

Now this is a vert and maybe other windows are different, but I've read quite a few posts on sticky power windows and have not seen this yet.

I've already been through 3 driver window switches on this car and I'm going to try the relay fix. My switch is so bad I'm going to try to bastardize another one. I also cracked the Pax switch trim. I'm hoping to find something from a truck or something that will fit into a 2" x 3.75" hole. If not I'll try to fabricate one. I did a prototype using a Romix 4" square electrical box black plastic cover. Just cut a piece out, hand trimmed it, then hit it with a soda blaster to try to match the dull black look. (pic 3). I'll do a better job if I have to use this method, but maybe I'll find something that is a better fit.
