powdercoating
Does anyone know what colors are USUALLY available when powdercoating? what colors look good besides white, i have white rims, and i was thinking of powdercoating them a different color (aluminum or bronze)
Companies have an infinite amount of colours. Whatever you want, you can even have made. I used to run a powder coating shop, so do have a bit of insight. The problem that you'll have, is availability. Powder it's self starts at about $6 a kilo, and moves up to about $50 for some special colours. (This is in Canada, anyway.) If you want to have a colour made, you'll have to buy about 125 kilos of it. (Min order) Because of this, paint shops don't stock odd colours. The best thing you can do, is go to a local shop, and ask what colours they have in stock. They'll have boxes of the stuff from other jobs. They'll show you a brochure, and tell you what they have. Chances are that they'll have quite an aray of colours. Choose one, and they'll be able to hook you up. *TIP* Have your wheels sandblasted first! The final look will be better, and it will last longer!

Mazcare recommended a place to get my vert's TII wheels cleaned, repaired, & clearcoated.
I was thinking about picking a used oven up to do some clearcoating/powdercoating in my garage, but that will be during a restoration project.
Seems like all you need is the gun, oven, and patience

Powdercoating is like bodywork - save your money and let someone else *professional* do it. Once the powder is baked on, it's on there. Sandblasting is the only way besides an acid bath to get it off. So it has to be a perfect uniform thickness before you bake it, or you'll be sorry.

Depends on the part and the preparation. If the part is clean and blasted, the powdercoating is usually around 25$. That's what I would charge for a valve cover already sandblasted.
(But I'm in Illinois so I can't help.)

The more pieces that you have the cheaper it will get per piece. If you're willing to wait a bit longer, the price will drop as well. Powder coating is a messy process. If you don't have a booth, the powder gets everywhere. For the relative cheapness, get someone to do it. Smaller shops will also be cheaper because they will use a batch oven, and not a massive automated line. If you want to get stuff done, then call your friends and get as much stuff together as you can that is going to be the same colour, and have a batch done at once. The price will drop dramatically. It's worth it over spray painting!
