I thought we had a post about this not too long ago, either way, it works best in the glovebox or mounted in the ashtray area.

This is where my S-AFC used to be installed. I had no use for the ashtray, and it was an easy spot.

Now, I don't have the S-AFC.

Mine is sitting in the ashtray. I busted up the cover so it sits and looks stock, though the cover will depart from the ashtray under hard driving if I don't remove it first.

Been there for 5 years and never had a problem. I don't DD this car, only goes to car meets or driving events and the few times there has been a passenger they were 7 owners also who knew what was up. But I see your point and understand it. I put my other gauges below the radio so that spot got used and as clean as the car is I didn't want to take out the vents or other spots to mount it.

Why would anyone mount it in front of the gauges? It blocks half of the tach, speedometer and temp gauge...

Nah, I didn't block of the vents....but I don't run anything through those vents anyway. I don't use AC, and if I have the heater on, i just throw it on my feet.

Agreed. Once I got my SAFC-II more or less tuned, I've left it tucked away. You can't tell that I have one from outside the car (or inside, for that matter) unless I pull the ashtray cover off. Really, I don't particularly care what it's reading for the most part. If I'm running hard or doing performance testing, I'll pull the cover off & keep tabs on the max values I hit, but... daily driving, I don't watch it.

Do you think it'll pay for itself in fuel savings?

Ok lets be a little realistic here. AT THE ANGLE THE PICTURE WAS TAKEN, it does partially block 3 guages.

1. An inaccurate temp gauge.
2. An inaccurate tachometer. It's still only blocking below 1k rpms and past 8k, not half. ;-)
3. 0-20 on the speedometer.

But since I'm not 4' 2", I can clearly read all my gauges.

So, the moral of the story, if your short, get a phone book or mount it somewhere else. :-)
