Possibility of over-active OMP?

I bought the motor used from another forum member. He claimed it had 3,000 miles on it. And we confirmed that it was indeed rebuilt, but could not confirm the actual mileage(obviously) ***also I used the OMP lines from my old motor, which are steel braided lines.

I changed the oil in my car about 1,500 miles ago, and today it was extremely low. I had maybe 1-2 quarts in there.

It NEVER smokes on start-up. Not even a tiny bit. Which leads me to believe that it isn't the oil control rings.

However it does *slightly* smoke if I rev it to 8k in neutral a couple times and let it shoot flames and ****. Which I found to be completely normal among straight piped rotaries. PLEASE do not ask why hahaha, I just like to do that from time to time.

Other than the oil loss, the car runs perfectly fine, and starts up every single time.

My questions are,

1: Would an overactive OMP cause the oil consumption?

2 Is it even possible to have an over-active OMP?

I guess theoritically on an s4 its possible if the linkage to it gets stuck , making it stay on the fully open position, and/or its sticking and taking longer to close then it should.

Yeah :/ well my car's an S5..

I read that in the FSM 1 quart every 750 miles is acceptable. that's not far off of where I'm at.

I see well I have no theory on that, if it were the oil control rings you'd see alot of smoke on high rpms, more depending on how bad they are and worse they are the more the oil consumption would be.

Its also possible that you have an oil leak somewhere causing oil to go faster than normal, I'd look into that. (Check oil pan, oil filter pedestal, omp , oil cooler lines)

If its burning 1 quart every 750 miles I wouldn't be too worried, if you were having to fill it after every time you drive and keep an eye on it all the time then I'd be worried.

Its possible he reused the oil control rings, though I don't see why he would.

if your s5 omp acted up at all, you would get a check engine light, and likely limp mode. bad bearings will consume oil as well. still my vote is for a leak. people under estimate how quickly a leak under pressure will dump a quart or two.

Yeah the re-used oil rings were the first thing that popped into my head. But I don't think anyone in there right might would skip a chance to replace them.

Even still, I don't see any kind of smoke from the exhaust during driving. Not even when I am at 8k+ rpms.

The ONLY time I see smoke is when I rev it continuously and it shoots flames. Though I might attribute that to the fact that i am running an OMP, AS WELL as a supplemental 1/2-oz per gallon pre-mix.

You're probably just paranoid like me , if there's little to no smoke I doubt the oil rings are the culprit, ive seen the exhaust on an s4 with bad oil control rings, trust me it smoked quite a bit.

I'd check for oil leaks, could be something simple, on an na its pretty easy to narrow it down since you don't have to worry about leaks due to something having to do with the turbo.
