Ok the 5 and 6 ports or auxilary ports are used to add extra air to the motor at high RPMs S4(86-88) cars used exhaust back pressure to open them. S5(89-91) used the air pump to open them. SInce your car is an 88 you will need cats or a presilencer with the fitting for the split air tube to actuate the ports the pump in this case does not actuate them. What exhaust are you running?

5th/6th ports work off of exhaust back pressure on the S4 (86-88).

The air pump is only required to keep your cat from burning itself out.

I just barely ran custom 2 1/2 in. Exhaust. I had the cats taken off. Is there a way to modify the ports to open under other circumstances? Maybe put 89-91 Ports on them?
so for a recap, The 5th and 6th port are air inlet ports designed to let the engine get more air ( air=rpm) at higher rpm's. On my car there actuated by the exhaust back pressure through the clean air tube? I appreciate the help, and info on the rotary. any more points of veiw would be greatly appreciated.

well your ports are deffinatly not working. you can try other methods of actuation but I don't know about that. You can use a presilencer from RB to maintain enough backpressure to open them.

I used the air pump with a similar settup as seen on that link and couldn't get enough dump through a 1/2" ball valve held wide open to raise my actuation pint above 3200rpm. (when it should've been 3800 at the time)

I have that system which connects directly to your air pump and ACV block-off plate which I'll sell you for 15 bucks shipped. It's not the perfect open point, but its quick, easy, and reliable. Pics of it installed are availible. PM me if you want it.
