porting + timing

i think my timing is off. but i need a question answered before i know...

street ported engine, do i time it to the marks? i know porting advances timing... im kind of confused about this, because im off the marks about an inch

Porting doesnt really change the timing, it just lengthens the intake/exhaust duration. Unless you have a serious port, shouldn't need to alter the timing. So reset it to stock timing.

You're thinking of 2 different kinds of timing. There's ignition timing, and port timing, not the same. Porting increases port timing.

Your ignition timing should be set as it normally is, unless you are going standalone and redoing the timing map entirely.
