Porting throttle body?

Hi Gang,
I just finished reading "Street Rotary" on recommendation of a thread found while researching my performance project.
In a latter part of the book, the author recommends "porting and polishing" the throttle body (among lots and lots of other ideas/suggestions), however he never explains what, exactly, is ported. The polishing part I can kinda figger out on my own, but I'd appreciate any clarification on the porting that anyone here can provide.

thanks!

The front where air is actually entering. You can widen that up and give it more breathing room.

You leave the butterflies alone.
