its VERY easy to screw up port work if you havent had practice.

Porting almost always means rebuild a motor anyway.

porting jobs can cost from $300 and up depending on the size of the port.. mild street, aggressive street, half-bridge, full D or J bridge, monster port, peripheral port.

porting to rotaries does the exact same thing as changing cams on a piston motor..... you will shift the power band more to the right and the peak power will be "peaky" and you will lose bottom end power.

my suggestion as well as other who will chime in is to: go either mild or aggressive street port..... you will never see any benefit of anything more than that on the street.

rebuild street price - between $1k(if you do it yourself) to $1,500+ if you get a shop to do it and dependent if any major engine parts need replacement.

porting street price - $????? this should be left to the shop that does the rebuild.

you'll end up spending about $2k+ for a rebuilt street ported motor.... and the price is on the VERY LOW side

The reason why searches take a long time is because impatient people like you create threads like this. It's a vicious cycle, you see.

If this will be your first rebuild, and you want to port it, practice on some scrap irons/housings before doing it for real on good parts. Atkins has a nice rebuild video, as does DIY 13B, and others.

If you want someone to do the porting for you, the prices usually start from $350 (http://rotaryresurrection.com/2ndgen/engine_prices.html)

The most expensive mistakes you'll make are when you're doing the first motor. Set aside a "mistake fund" for insurance.

Good luck!

Take a trip on over to www.nopistons.org/forums
Take a look at their engine building/porting section and be prepared to do a lot of reading. From there, you can asses your damages (pocket book) and go from there.

Look at this site, best info I've found on porting. http://www.rotaryengineillustrated.com/porting/15.html
I have to use Firefox to see the photos, but on some computers Internet explorer will pull up the pics. I have spent many hours searching this site for porting info, and never found a comprehensive overview of porting. I have not been able to find any good books on the subject either, so hopefully this website helps. Once you know the basics, you may get some good feedback on specific questions from some very knowledgeable people here. The problem will be in differentiating the informed comments from the useless ones.
