ported N/A 6 port engines

Question

Do you guys with ported engines, are you still using your 5th and 6th port actuation?

If you are using them still....why?

since porting is almost the same as open 5th/6th ports, without timing changes from the porting. IE: more flow.??

No it's not the same thing.
It'll just be a bigger port when your aux ports open. When you port a motor you'll naturally lose a little bottom end. Higher air flow means less torque, generally. Bigger exhaust, free flowing intake, porting, they all move the torque band up the rpm range.

I knew that.

I asked the wrong questions, sorry.

If your ported are you using your port actuation still? Or did you remove them entirely?

I'm not ported. I put the turbo on a 6-port block with a t2 intake manifold. So I don't have any port actuators or anything.

Big ports are good for high rpms. Moderate ports are good for low rpms. Ideally you'd keep the 5th/6th port actuation. That way you don't lose as much power (or maybe you gain power) down low when you enlarge the ports. The reason is b/c there is some overlap causing air to leak directly from the intake to the exhaust. This happens a little even on the stock ports. The leak is worse when your motor is turning slow. At the same time a port is far more restrictive when the air velocity is high, but far less restrictive when the air velocity is low.

But if all you care about is peak HP regardless of low end power, mpg and emissions, you don't need your aux ports.

no i dont use them i have either ported them together or you can have a machine shop or welder weld teh dead ends where your ports use to be so that you have a nice smooth runner on the 5th and 6 th ports
