Unhappy poor acceleration, loud intake noise

my 87 GXL is crapping out again. Under acceleration, the intake noise is very loud and the exhaust note is practically gone. My mechanic has worked on it this past week and suspects that it's the ECU computer. He says it's running rich. Has anyone experience this?
thanks,
-Alan

first of all what mechanic is it? I would not trust anyone that does not specialize in Rotary cars. PERIOD

Noise from the intake means you probably have a vac leak. If you are not moddified at all I don't see why you are running RICH. Even if you are modded you won't run rich enough to cause this kind of ****

agreed. these old *** cars tend to have a vac leak spring up every once and a while from the old *** hard rubber vacuum lines that have been there since 1986.

couldn't a vacuum leak make you run rich?

it effs up the air fuel ratio because all that air gets in and sneaks by the afm without getting measured. hell i dont know what i'm talkin about.

Actually this could be the timing.

Believe it or not, this happened on my Scooter. Yes, i know i'm comparing a scooter to a ****** engine equipped car... but think about it if the timing is off... you could be backfiring into the intake... leaving you with a very loud noise

Actually, more air would make you run lean, not rich.
