I have the 14" fingerchopper (Perma-cool) and have not had a single problem with it. I live on the coast of Georgia, and we have very hot summers, like 95 degrees and 80% humidity for most of the summer. Not a single time did my temp guage move from its normal position in stop and go traffic for an hour sometimes in that weather. And I have the stock radiator.

Its loud, and I have it on a temp switch only, so it stays on until the water cools off in the rad. People always ask me if I left my car running for a reason

My e-fan experience:

My '86-'88 70 amp alternator would not chrage the battery with the e-fan and a/c. It is a 14 amp Black Magic fan.

My '89-'91 80 amp alternator would charge enough but, the alternator didn't last long.

My '93+ 100 amp alternator has been just fine as far as charging the battery.

My coolant temps went up by about 15° with the e-fan.

My coolant temps are still up by about 10° with the e-fan and the Fluidyne radiator.

During warm months(9 months here) I drive in the city with the a/c running ALL of the time. I NEVER roll down a window except to get a burger.

One of the reasons I asked was because I planned to get the Perma Cool (9.5 amp 2950cfm) instead of the BM (13.9 amp 2800cfm) for obvious reasons. Making a shroud is not that hard for me (how does polished aluminum sound to you? helps light the engine bay...).

I keep trying to figure out why everyone like the BM - there must be a reason - maybe the shroud? (It's not THAT good a shroud, especially for $100.)

Anyway, I did do a search on electric fans, but most of the bajillion responses I got were 1st gen and 3rd gen, so I started this one up. I thought that the Fiero fan was a 1st gen thing - does anyone know how much current draw and cfm draw we're talking about here?

Thank you, my good man.

Worth noting: a Taurus fan was one of my other options.

Also worth noting: a rebuilt motor for a Fiero fan can be found at most auto parts stores for under $20. Try finding a rebuilt motor for the BM or similar...

Jeez, I just looked at that thread again, and I had to stop and figure out what the hell it was I was saying a couple times. Sorry I don't have any pictures. Again, if anyone has any questions, please feel free to e-mail me or reply to this post.

Damn, I remember those few posts taking forever to write...

These are two classic examples of not using the search engine properly. Read the whole search page, not just the first text box! Amongst other things, you can search by user name (whole or partial) and search only specific forums, both of which would have narrowed the above searches to only what was wanted. Sorry to hijack the thread, but if everyone used the search engine properly, we wouldn't even need this thread!

The key to any fan is the shroud a un scrouded fan will move a certain amount of air. but addinga schroud will dramaticly incress its performance. If you look all the manufaturers and race cars always have scrouds, and its not always for safty reasons mor offten than not its for perfomance in cooling.

Any fan will always pull more air through the radiator with a shroud. This is because the shroud stops air being pulled from the sides of the fan instead of through the core. Plus a shroud allows the fan to pull air through a larger area of the core.

He asked does he NEED one...which he DOESNT, regardless of what may seem logical or what people have read, the perma cool fan does a FINE job of cooling. Take my friends Bryans car (BNR Supercars)
theres an FC that puts down over 400 hp, and guess what? Perma Cool. Or how about Soul assassin, 500+ rwhp...wanna know what? Permacool again. So again I say...

Perma Cool will flow just FINE!

I didn't say he needed one, I just said a shroud makes any fan work better. Basic fan fact.
Besides, at low speed and idle (when a fan is actually working), a 500hp engine requires as much cooling as a 100hp one, so your examples are irrelevant.
