Please help a Newbie, I want to buy a FC RX-7!

Hi, I am new and I would like you guys to answer my questions!

I am in the market of getting a FR car. I really like the FC RX-7 because it is light weight, suits my budget, and is very exotic and fun to tune.

My questions are:

- Are all FC RX-7 turbocharged? If not, what models are turbo and which aren't??

- What are the horse power difference between different years of FC?

- Are there lots of aftermarket parts for the 2nd gen FC RX-7? Are they reasonably priced like the Supra's?

- Does the rotary engine last long? I know turbo 300ZX only produce 100hp after 200k miles. Is this the case with the FC RX-7??

Thanks in advance!

thanks in advance!

- I saw a GLX for sale that says it has turbo...is it true?

- Also, is it common for an FC to change out suspension bushings? I will definetly do coil overs, bars, etc. But has anyone done bushings?

You mean GXL... they didn't come with a turbo from the factory but there have been people who have performed turbo conversions to them. You'll have to take a peak under his hood to know...

telus.net,

Hey welcome to the forum.

The Turbo II is designed as a Supercar and is the car to get if you're looking to push 350-650+HP.

The other NA/non turbo models make great daily drivers as well including:

convertible (very sweet car),
GTU-S - lightweight SCCA race car with better gearing
GTU, sport - sport models
GXL - luxury models
SE - base model

The NA rx-7 engines need a rebuild every 200-300K miles and the Turbo IIs 140-180K miles. The rebuild can be a "do it yourself" repair for cheap as well.

I've covered your other questions below:

The best thing about the rx-7s is the car is 100% designed as a TRUE sports car - not a "sports coupe" or "sports sendan."

The Turbo II is a SUPERCAR and is the tuners DREAM CAR. Mazda designed the car with 450HP in mind but detuned to 200/180 ft-lbs torque. What that means is you can GO NUTS designing a porsche killer for little $$$.

The rotary engine is PERFECT for a sports car. Mazda designed the rx-7 to take 130% advantage of it. That means you get lightweight HIGH OUTPUT performance, UNLIMITED REVING (there's nothing to break), small engine means sweet aerodynamics = low drag. Handlign is the BEST part of the rotary experience. The chassis has rear steer like some porsches, so you can kick some serious butt around the corners. The car handles & drives so well - it inspires you to push the car beyond what you think it's capable of

Best of all, the rx-7s have an international following from tuners, manufacturers, and enthusiest. That means you have a wide selection of performance upgrades, accessories, bodykits, coffeytable books, toy models, and knowlegable people.
