please help me find out some clanking noise¿
my 88 rx7 that i just bought is making a clanking noise. it happens when accelerate after shifting or when i accelerate from a smooth roll. the sound comes mostly from the bottom, not the front. also, when i'm in neutral or on the clutch, the whole car is like vibrating a lot. the road wasn't that bumpy. but i am more concerned with the clanking part the most. do u think i need a new tranny, or clutch, or driveshaft, or something¿ also, while i was stopped by traffic on the freeway, i couldn't get my car into any gears. like it just wouldn't go in, i had the clutch all the way, and tried moving it too, while i tried throwing it into gears, but still no luck, and i was getting honked at. i was so scared and nervous. i tried it gently and rough. but like no luck. i didn't know wut happened, i thought it was the clutch, but like, i should of been able to atleast jam it in there, like power shifting. but after like 3 long minutes or so, i got lucky and it went in. so i got off the freeway and pulled into a nearby gas station, and i called the tow truck. pleas help me. if i can't fix it, i wanna sell it for about $1000, it has a good engine and body, frame is straight, but i'll sell it if the repairs are like over $250, cuz i don't wanna bother with it. i want a car that doesn't need repairing right now. i need a dependable car soon cuz i start school soon. i know that i get wut i pay for, but i seriously thought it was fine. thanks.

please help me
i really would like the help, i know that i shouldn't expect a response that quick, but i guess i am use to other forums. but yeah, i would like to know wuts wrong cuz i need a car that runs well very very soon. i have found an old mr2 for sale, for about $600, and he is leaving soon, like to move to another state. but the thing is that i want the car cuz he said the engine has no problems wutsoever, and there is like no funny noises, or leaking. and i really don't wanna wait for this car to work properly. i have put my car up in ads all over the place, but they are lagging a bit. so, if i will seriously drop the price down to $750 if i can sell it right away, like very very quick. $700 if its within like 2 days and stuff.....i dunno......it depends. but yeah...car has a good engine from wut i see, i drove it and the engine didn't sound or feel like it had any problems. just maybe the clutch or tranny, or the drivetrain may need some work. but a friend said that it shouldn't cost too much and that i should give it a try considering that it isn't that old. has a sunroof, good clean stock wheels on them (no hubcaps), body is good, door had a dent in it, but was repaired, power windows and door locks, stock security system, tires are ok, lights work, original paint, interior is ok, needs some TLC, but otherwise, it looks good! but if u got hook ups on repairs, then you got urself a GREAT DEAL! on this car. leave me a response here, or better yet, email me...Jaizee187@aol.com, or if ur realy interested, try calling me @ home, 714-282-7313, leave a message if i ain't home, i'll get back to you ASAP. PLEASE BUY THIS CAR! i am starting school soon, and don't need this trouble. also, if you got a trade with a reasonable car, then i will consider that too. looking for a little car, small, but sporty. an old MR2, CRX or Civic hb (88-91), or another rx7 would work, don't care about the year for the mr2 or rx7 as long as it runs great. with no problems wutsoever. i don't mind a couple dents or wutever......but PLEASE consider this, the shell would be good for a swap if u wanted, and the engine looks rather great, and i think it has a lot of potential. so please.....please.....please.....BUY my car! thank you.

Whoa, getting a lil desparate, arent we ? Chill, the world wont come to an end if you dont have a car for a couple of weeks...
From what you are saying, seems like flywheel or clutch. Either one -or both - is shot, so you will need some tranny work

i suggest u fix the problem. as ace said it shouldn't be such a big problem
u just lose out big time if u keep selling cars when they have a problem

i called AAMCO
well i talked to the owner, and i told him of my situation and problem...and from wut he said is that it is mostly like a clutch, bearing, or some other kinda problem. but the thing is that, for most of that stuff, how much does that sound like to you¿ he said that they will inspect it for free. and lemme know wut is wrong. is AAMCO pretty cheap or wut¿ they are pretty popular, but wanna know if they rip people off like pepboys. has anybody had the similar problem of hearing a clank when u accelerate¿ or the inability to shift at times, like into any gear¿ if so lemme know. sorry for repeating myself.

Dont know the guys or the shop (I'm from Greece, after all ), but if they said they'll inspect it for free, then you shouldnt have a prob. Its not the synchros, should not be the clutch (can you smell the clutch, or does it slip badly when shifting ?). It could be the clutch (but you should have some notification earlier), or the flywheel. In either case, you must have the tranny opened and examined

I'll bet the clutch has high miles, and/or an amateur rebuild. The guys are on the right track to pull the tranny. With luck only the clutch pilot bearing is bad, and the input shaft is still OK.

just found out problem
well i just got back from aamco, and they said my driveshaft needs to be rebuilded or replaced. that would be $550 for a rebuild, or like $700 for a new one. umm both of those prices include, a new U-joint, new seal, transmission fluid flushed and replaced, and labor. but if i bring in my own driveshaft for that car, like it'll just be $160 and installation and all the other stuff. and like i need to register the car, and i am unemployed. so i just wanna get rid of the car...i just need some $$$$ ASAP.
