Please Help

I have an 86 n/a fc. I need help in trying to diagnose the problem. I have used the search and have been unsuccessful. The exhaust is right now cut off at the cat so is running a sort of open downpipe type of deal. But anyway the car does start and run and drive but these are the symptoms: once it hits 3-4k rpm. it bogs down but once it gets up to 5k it doesn't bog anymore. but has NO POWER AT ALL. i mean giving it all its got i can not get it past 55 mph. I have NO IDEA what it could be. Maybe a blown motor? maybe blown apex seal? maybe just a tune up and the cat put back on. I need help so please NO FLAMING on a noob and some help please. THank u in advance and GOD BLESS.

you got hesitation. very well covered in the FAQs. basically check all your grounding points and either replace them or clean them very well and use dielectric grease on them. but really just go the FAQ section and read all about it

yeah... grounding... OR

your actuators dont work.... or maybe you dont have any (like my friends car) ... check on the lower bottom side, above the exaust, there should be 2 roundish tube things that push up a metal pin....

Does it idle all by itself?

Is there the smallest possibility that you have the sparkplug wires on wrong? Its the upper ones that could be put on wrong. The Trail coil ones. The sparkplug holes have T or a L embossed next to the sparkplug holes and the coil assy's have T1, T2, L1,L2 marked next to their respective wire locations.

If it idles at all, then get a timing light out and see if the thing is in time or not. Download or buy the FSM and read the Fuel section.
