Question Playing with pulleys....

alright, i think i need some second opinions here. i put on a aluminum main pulley which is an obvious underdriver. I dont have ps ac or the smog pump so i have one belt. And, i have elec. issues. i just plain dont make enough volts from the alt.

Now i am going to go to an FD alt and use a double pulley which im pretty sure doesnt underdrive the alt. Hoepfulley that will help. But i am also thinking about putting the stock main back on. but im not sure. because the car does spend alot of time above 4k rpms where the waterpump starts to act undesirable. I know meziere makes an elec. waterpump for the rotary. actaully two versions of it. would it be better for me to get an electric water pump and then use the stock pulley and the FD alt to solve my cooling and elec. problems? or should i try something else?

95% of people just seem to use double pullies and are ok, dDub's engine I beleive taching the R's constantly and was ok with the same setup you mentioned.

Or you could convert to serpentine?

Honestly, unless you're spending a lot of time on the track, I wouldn't wouldn't worry about water Cativation. I've only heard of that happening with extended time above 6,500 RPM.. I'm talking about at least a few minutes. A brief stay up there won't hurt anything.

I would definately look into using the dual pulley, especially since you have removed the PS/AC/AP, you're really not putting much belt contact on your stock water pump or stock fan (do you have the stock fan?).

You mention cooling problems as well as electrical. Try runniing it with the dual pulley once, and see if your problems dissappear. You don't have to worry about underdriveing your alt, unless (again), you spend lots of time above 6500 RPM. . Although, you're probably doing it now for the weight savings as well as the extra HP or 2 from underdriving, right?

well the main pulley went on because, well i had it. But the thing underdrove my alt to the point where i dont make enough volts. so i want to put the main pulley back on and then run a dual alt pulley also for redunency on the pump and alt...
