Talking plastic piece over radiator and fan

ive just recently installed an intake filter on my 87' gxl.
i removed the oem intake box and also the plastic piece over the radiator and fan.
is it recommended to keep the oem plastic piece over fan/radiator or is it ok to keep it out?

You shouldn't take that out while still running the stock mechanical/clutch fan. Otherwise the air wont be able to be pulled properly through the radiator.

Are you talking about the little stock cold air intake pipe, or the actual fan shroud around the radiator? If you're referring to the shround, aboslutely under no circumstances should it be removed when still running a stock fan.
