Pilot bearing seal importance??

So my i'm swapping out my beat up n/a trans, and putting in my TII trans. I ordered a clutch kit but foregot to get a pilot bearing seal and I can't find one locally. So i have to get this done asap. What importance is putting in a new pilot bearing seal? What effect will a worn out seal have?

The seal is almost always damaged upon removal. If you don't seal it up, the grease will quickly migrate down the input shaft and the pilot bearing will burn out.
