Pilot Bearing Seal

I'm about to install this along with my clutch and p/p, which way does the seal go in, there are two sides. One is black in color, the other is a kind of gray. Does it matter? How can you tell how far to drive the pilot bearing in? Thanks in advance, I searched but these questions weren't answered.

You have your tranny out of your car I assume; well first off take you pilot bearing and seal and slide them on the input shaft of the tranny to make sure the clearences are correct, put the pilot bearing on first then the seal the seal should be at the very end of the input shaft and the pilot bearing right behind it, the darker side of the seal is facing the motor. now looking at distance taken up by the bearing and the seal, that is as far as you want push the bearing and seal into the input shaft, its okay to go a little further but if you go to far in it will be impossible to get it out come time to put a new one it.

most seals have a flat face and a "U" groove face, the flat face should face away from the e-shaft and what is used to drive in the seal.
