Question Performance Question

Not sure if this belongs in this forum but since it deals with the car I put it in here.

I have a 86 RX7 GXL and am getting the body worked on, as well as getting some other things "fixed up." It was my sister's car prior to mine and well she didn't treat it very well. I was wonder what is the easiest and cheapest upgrade to increase horsepower. I really love this car and don't want to have to trash it. I already have a sound system in it and plain on going pretty far with these modifications. Any suggestions to start me off would be great.

First off I'd make sure you have a motor thats in good working order.
I would then put a full Exhaust Header, midpipe, and catback.

yeah, make sure the ENGINE (MOTORS run on electricity, engines on GASOLINE ) is in good condition. Then add some BPU and new tires. BPU+ is gonna involve some major cash/time. Either porting or supercharging.. or a combo of the two

BPU++ is gonna involve laughing gas

Exhaust is the fastest/easiest way to add hp/ But it ain't cheap. Check out www.racingbeat.com I run their header and presilencer, and a N1 catback (Apex is a good brand, as well as Corksport) and I have a substantial gain in hp over stock. Also, remove weight. I removed my air conditioning system, spare tire, sound proofing, and stock y-pipe. Remember, speed = a good power to weight ratio, not how much horse power you have. Also, learn to really drive the car. That is the best speed modification you will EVER do!! Have fun!!

I found out with my new project, there is a LOT of weight to remove of these pigs. I have removed at least 100lbs by now. I am taking out all sound deadaning stuff and a few accessories.

Actually, nitrous is the fastest, cheapest way to add horsepower per inital investment. For $600, my system can add over 200 hp.
This is about the price of a normal aftermarket catback alone, with 10 times the horsepower added.
However, IMO, nitrous should never be used this way. It should be used to add hp, not substitute it, and should be done after intake, exhaust, porting, etc.

BPU = Basic Performance Upgrades (Ie. Intake, headers, exaust)

BPU+ = Next level up from BPU. (ie. ported intake manifold, MSD 6A ignition, racing chip, racing tires, possibly small upgraded turbo.)

BPU++ = 3rd level up (usually MAX power). (Ported engine, ported everything, complete exhaust system with intake, upgraded fuel, NOS, huge turbo(s), the works )
