your going to have to remove the door panel from the inside..it will be a pain and you may brake some pieces but once you have it off you can access the handle rods and latch...what happened that you cant open it? can you feel any resistance or hear any noises?

hm.. someone tried to break into the car and messed the mechanisms up. there is no resistance or any abnormal noises when trying to open the door. i think the linkage is broken at the latch.

Just remove the door panel and look inside. Best case you'll have to unbend and reconnect a piece of metal, worst case you'll have to replace something, probably from a junk yard. You can get inside with a screw driver. Other than the screws it's just snap-in tabs that pull out. There's a plastic sheet covering everything that you peel off. A hot glue gun would be handy to replace it when you're done. A blow dryer can soften the existing hot melt to remove the plastic easier or perhaps re-use it without the need for new glue.
If you have manual windows then there's a horse-shoe clip behind the crank that you need to squeeze before it'll pull off. You'll need something thin like cable or thin pliers to squeeze it. Don't force the handle off when you pull or it'll snap.
And best of luck to you on not breaking your interior pieces.

the thing is, there is that one last screw that i can't get which sits behind the dash by the vents. i am unable to take the door panel off without getting to that last screw.

I had this problem on the drivers door once. I used a Slim-Jim with sort of a T at the end and worked it around till i hooked the T onto the back (inside the door) of the latch and was able to pop it open. I just kept fishing around till i hooked the right thing. I still haven't gotten the drivers door latch mechanism to work properly, but at least i can open the door.

he can't even open the door. so the clearance with the door open is a moot point.
he's saying that there is a screw in the door card that is covered by the dash when the door is closed.
