mine were done for 35$ each. included blasting and powder coating. you need the tires removed though.

I did mine with the Duplicolor wheel paint. And I put light clear coat over that. I used lacquer clear even though they say not to, but it didn't mess anything up. I did this about 2 months ago, so I'm not sure how well it will really last. But I squeezed out all four rims on one can of paint that costs $4. I would recommend 2 cans as I barely had enough. There is actually a mess up where the paint sputtered on the last wheel (not noticeable unless up close).
Anyway, if I wake up early enough before I have to go to work tommorow, I'll get a picture for you.

Powdercoating is definitely a better option if you can.

Of course, I didn't have to take my tires off or even mask them for that matter. I just used a stiff plastic brush to clean off the tires after the paint dried. Took a few hours all in all.

I don't remember what all colors they had. I bought the paint at Walmart. You can get it at any parts store that has touch up paints. At least, all the ones I've been to had it.

Anyhow, http://webpages.charter.net/a-melita/IMG_0126.jpg

I have used Duplicolor's Wheel Coating on three different vehicles now.. So far, so good.. I spent a little more than 4 dollars, though..

the EASIEST thing to do is drop 5 bucks on a can of "Aircraft Coating Remover". Spray it on the wheel, wait a few minutes, and then hose it off and rub it down with a rag.. It completely eats away the clearcoat. There was a few spots on my GXL rims that I needed to hit a second time with that.. One can was more than enough for all 4 of my wheels.

2nd step is the color step.. I used the gunmetal, It looks the same as 86GXL's car. two coats per rim, I got two cans, used about 1.5... 4 dollars per can, so i'm up to $13

Last step is the wheel clearcoat, also from duplicolor. I did two layers on each rim, used one can completely up. cost: $4.50..

Total cost of project: $17
Total time for all 4 wheels: ~2 hours or so (counting drying times in between washing and painting).

If you're interested, I can get some pics of it later today...

Just for reference, in my sig file, the wheels are only photoshopped to the same shade/color as they are now, I haven't had a chance to reshoot my car in a nice setting It really does look much nicer thant he sig file

The Duplicolor paint works well and will look good. The trick to making them look nice is how much time and effort you put into the prepwork. Like Wonko mentioned, stipping the old paint is a good idea. Make sure that the wheels are clean and free of any oils. It sounds basic but apply several thin layers of paint, not one or two heavy coats. Clearcoating will make the finish much more durable. We painted my freinds stock CRX wheels and they still look good a year later even after having new tires mounted.

I did the same thing yesterday but instead of removing the clearcoat, I sanded down the rims to get out the rough edges.
But I didnt know clear coat was for AFTER painting... I used a ground coat before then did 2-3 coats of paint on each wheel and the can is still about 1/6th full

Won't aircraft stripper do bad things to your tires? I figured it would so I didn't use any, just sandpaper.

On my beater's rims I used a grinder and a wire wheel attachment, depending on the rim and it's finish it works well.

i helped a friend and his wheels came out almost flawless. just one runny mark cuz it was 3 in the morning. but for my opinio i did a good job. we used it hink 5 or 6 cans and 3 layers of clearcoat on each rim.

Look at the powder coating on my fenders, doors and rims.

My guy does it for NASA and Lockheed.

Not compared to powder coating.

It won't hold up to rock chips as well.........
