has anybody ever painted S5 taillights... i mean the part that doesnt light up...so its like just circles? I searched and found a thread from like 3 years ago, people were calling it rice. Anyone got any pics?

 

Even Condeleeza says this thread is rice. theres a reason we called it rice three years ago. Theres a reason we'll call it rice now. None the less, there have been pictureso f them painted... looks like **** imo though-- good way to trash/waste a decent pair of rare s5 tails

I could understand smoking them, but painting them like you stated? I don't know, that does seem a little rice.

 

i can understand not liking thunderchicken tallights... go for s4's because they are so much cooler.

Everyone knows what a thunderchicken is. But I aggree, black S4 lights that are tinted look hot.

 

Repainted (rattle can) and striped with Pepboys grade pinstriping. I thought it might make the S4 tails look a little meaner without adding unnecissary rice. Two cars and 6 months later, no sign of wear. They looked better on Silver though.

how is that less rice than painting S5 lights. All you're doing is painting the part that doesnt light up in both applications. I'm not asking to be an *******, im genuinly curious as to why people like this and dislike the other.

 

unless you seperate the lens from the housing- painting the inside of a s5 light will only give you shaded circles, the rest will remain stock

 

i repainted my s4 tails when i painted my car. ppg bright blue mettallic. i think it looks pretty sweet...i'll try to get a pic if i can ever get my hands on a digicam

someone plz explain 2 me why painting the non-light up part of the tail is awsome on the S4 but sucky on the S5. Just tell me why, thats all i ask.

 

Try it in Photoshop. That's the only way you'll really, truly know w/o actually doing it. Supply me with a good image of nice S5 rearend and I'll give it a try.

 

just because of the way the lights are designed, it looks cool on s4, and not so good on s5.

I saw it once, and wow that was fugly! (to me)

i have this feference book on the fc (it was published in '85) and its mostly about its history and planning but it also has lots of info on other rotary cars and rotaries in general. but one of the original ideas was to have lights that (if S5's exited) look like your "thunderchicken" tail lights. they wanted it to resemble taillights of the r100.
