Paint Idea - "True Fire" - Opinions?
Well, I'm repainting my FC this winter, taking it down to bare metal (It had 4 previous paint jobs.. OUCH! ). I'm also molding in a "YourSport" spoiler (kind of half way between the whale tail spoilers and a stock TII wing, and fixing the door dings. Also finishing up the total S5 exterior conversion.
Regardless, I'm thinking of having the front ~2' or so or of the car (and a few other bits like trailing from the door handles and gas cap, maybe side mirrors, etc) with a "true fire" paint scheme. I'm not sure if I'd do an actual fire color, or do something more like a blue/white/purple color scheme.
Here are a couple of shots of it.
Fire color-
Blue/white-
It would basically be the whole front bumper up to about 1' or so behind the headlight pop-ups, with some smaller flames fading toward the windshield. I'd probably also paint my engine covers to match (my car is V8 swapped, but if you want to flame/talk about that, take it to PM, I don't wanna step on toes in this section).
So what do you think? The car will only be driven a few hundred (maybe ~2000 at MOST) each year, mostly cruising, drag strip and car shows, so it's not a daily driver by any means (I have a GTP and an Impreza doing daily driver duty).
Here is a picture of the car for reference-
It has S5 tails, and trim/bumpers now. Wheels are staying the same, though I may have them recoated with a black chrome color. We'll see how I like it in photochop.

Here's another (better) picture of a blue "true fire" job. I would most likely go with a much more "subtle" (as far as subtle goes with a flame job), version of this, mostly why I'm leaning toward blue, as I think it will be a little more low-profile.
And SonicRat, it's definitely bling.

Actually, I'll probably buy his DVD and airbrush stencils and figure it out myself. I've not airbrushed before, but I'm fairly artistic, so I think I can figure it out. That or I have a friend that has a friend that does tru-flame on Harleys.
I'm trying to find a better picture of what I have in mind. I want true fire, but I want it more of a "ghost" effect, with it standing out a lot less then it does in these pictures. Low profile, but noticable. Tough to describe I'm afraid.

I think the tru-flame paintjobs look amazing...but its not something I would put on an RX-7. Seems like more of a hotrod, sport truck, muscle car thing to me, but thats just my opinion. With the V8 swap you could probably get away with it though!

On a rotary rx-7... no. But with the LS1 its sort of a hot rod, so you can get away with it like ultradef said. I still dont know if i'd like flames on such a tiny & 'puny' car. It would be interesting to see though...

The only flame painted car I've ever liked is the Monster Garage jet-powered "Hellica". It has that bad-*** skull detail on the hood scoop area and the flames "flciker" out at the end and trail off like a real fire. The painter also made the rear end more blue-ish so it looked like metal that's been heated (like new headers, yum).
There's also another member on here that has the black FC with the gran flames and the rotor on the sunroof which is a neat car as well. (I forgot your name, oops ).

uRizen-
Those are the types of flames I'm talking about. Same guy did those I believe (Mike Lavallee of KillerPaint). The concept I'm going for will be much less obvious then all of that. Same design as far as flames, but with much thinner colors. Better put, they would "ghost" into the paint much more, so that you don't seem them very brightly, but if you look closely they're visible.
SonicRat-
The car will be black when all is done.

Reminds me of a "Car talk" quote; "Nice flames, too bad they're just painted on."Seriously, if you do it in a subtle blue, so that it's almost subliminal; that would be hot. (pun intended)

Just for the record, I like the idea of flames on FCs, if done properly (I.e.: Not due to pulsation dampner failure).

I want to do a design involving rotors... A gloss black with dark metalflake bluer rotors.. .starting on the hood with a big one, and wrapping around to the rear, growing a bit smaller each step.. I thought something like that would be cool..
For Dad's GS, we're going to do a dark metalflake burgendy, with a large rotor left black on the hood.. gold accents (like the Mazda Logos, the Mazda on the rims, Rx-7 and GS logos).
