P/S and A/C
P/S and A/C
I have my P/S and A/C belts removed.
Can I take my P/S pump out altogether and just plug the two hoses together? Do I need to worry about getting air in the system? What about the little sensor on the P/S pump? How can I set that up so that my ECU doesn't think something is wrong?
Is it worth it to remove my A/C compressor? How much work is it? Do I just follow the hoses and remove everything they hook up to?
I suppose the bracket that holds the P/S and A/C is removable too, right?
Can I do all of this with the engine in the car?
I'm going for weight reduction here.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

hey
I wanted to take ps out to but dont know how. The a/c is easy though. I did it myself in like 3 hours or something but can be done much faster. The compresser just bolts off. Cut some hosing to make it easier. Drain fluid first thou. The condenser slides out the front bumper. Remember. Nothing needs to come off, like the bumper. A meckanic told me I had to. I just bolted off that latch the hood conects to and took off the plastic shrouds that direct air to the radiator and slid it through thier. I dont have it completely out yet because thiers some stuff under the dash I didnt try bother with. However I did take the blower motor out and some ducting. Dont take the blower out. You can use it for the heater. My dad through mine away. Craaap. Glad its summer.
How much weight did all of this save? I might just take out my compressor and P/S pump because I want to have easier access to the spark plugs, and I may want to hook the A/C back up eventually. Thanks.
You will probably drop at least 40+lbs....Not only that, but thats 2 less pullies that will be robbing your rear-wheels of power. Our cars feel much better with the P/S removed, at least mine does. I haven't actually removed my P/S pump yet, just the belt, but I believe you can just remove the pump and connect the two lines together. Cosmo Donk has done this...hey Cosmo, where are you?
I got mine running last nite...
...After some work, and about 15 minutes of ATF smoke coming out of the exhaust, I drove my car last nite. I did alot of things to the car and the increase is incredible =). Anyways, removing the ps, a/c (all components), mounting bracket, and hoses, will save about 60 lbs i'd imagine. With the air condensor off you will get alot more radiator flow. I replaced my thermostat (even tho the old one seemed ok), and took out the radiator to clean it... the car runs @ or below 1/4 temp now! holy ****! Anyways the ps is attacked by 2 hoses on the top, and one on the bottom as well as a small sensor which you just disconnect. unbolt it from the mounting bracket and take it out. put a drip pan underneith the car too, b/c you might look some ps fluid taking it out. the a/c is similar 2 hoses connected in the back (i forget), and 4 long *** mounting bolts. Then remove the mounting bracket itself which is only like 3 lbs, but it is less in the way =). Also, if the a/c system is fully pressurized you need to be very careful removing hoses. Freon is deadly. Mine had no juice tho, so I didn't have worry about it... =)
