Outside bolts/snaps on convertible top

Hey guys -

Been a long time since I've posted in the FC section. I know some of my posts are still floating around in here .

Have a friend with a VERY nice '90 convertible, we're trying to fix up a lot of little annoying and cosmetic things with it.

On the back of the covertible top near where it meets the body is a bunch of bolts. Some are just bolts, some are bolts with "snap heads" for the tonneau cover to attach to.

They're rusty and tired looking, and he has a nice new top on.

Are these available from Mazda? I've dug around on the parts microfiche but I'm not finding anything. Or, is there a good way to have them re-plated?

I don't really want to just paint them, first time he snaps on the tonneau cover that's the end of the paint.

Thanks!
Dale

ask Ray Crowe (Malloy Mazda..google it or see the Good Guy section) to order you new ones.

Yeah, I plan on getting with Ray, I need to order some parts from him anyhow. I'm just baffed that they aren't easy to spot on the microfiche.

Also, I don't know if these are no longer available, so I'm wondering about re-plating options.

Thanks!

They are "German" Tenax fasteners. I did some google searching found that they HAVE to be german as the british ones are different. Searching also showed that new ones from the dealer are like $25 EACH and aren't stainless.

Might want to contact these guys, oh and they are stainless!

its all in section 6300, which is usually the sunroof, but can also be the convertible top gubbins

i see an FB67-R1-91YC and FB67-R1-91ZC, it says hook A and hook B, hood.

hook A (YC) lists for $26, and B(zc) lists for $16.

rays price would be more like $17 and $10.50 i think.

Holy crap those are pricey! I think there's about 10 of them or so, that adds up to a LOT of cash for something small and cosmetic!

Good find on the Tenax fasteners, they look to be slightly more reasonable.

Thanks for the input, guys!

I'm going to Google around on re-plating options too. Unless someone here has a good idea .

ask this guy what he has.

https://www.rx7club.com/canadian-sal...parts-1075227/
(he lists this: Convertible Top Bolts (that the cover clips to) - $40)

I would blast them and paint them semi flat black, then never snap the cover on.
thats what I do. I have never snapped the boot on seems like way too much work when I want to raise it if I stop somewhere and lower it again

even if you say you will park it in your garage with the top down you really want to put it back up so it stays straight and tight

good idea, and if he uses header paint and bakes them in the oven, it'd be even more durable.

I took mine out and used some metal polish on them. They came out looking great. Just put them in a drill and spun them around a lot.
