Ordering a j-spec 13bt, where not to get it?

Checked out,nippon-motors, corksport, and that one that REted runs but where is the best place? I've been talking to nippon-motors and they have a 89-91 13bt and T2 trans in stock so I'm kinda leaning twards them? Anyone hear any horror stories from any of these places?

We have ordered 4 engines from Nippon with great success.
The last one smoked but had good compression. They promptly replaced it with no questions asked.
They offer a 30 day warranty, so the best thing to do is yank your old engine before you receive the new one. That will give you plenty of time to see if it's good or not.

Damn, 30 day. The engine will be sitting in my car a lot longer than that before I can test run it. I guess I'll just have to roll the dice and hopfully get a good one.

isn't that thirty day from the time you install it. i thought i read or somebody told me that. if it is then you'd be able to hold off on the install.

Damn I wonder what all the engines come with from Nippon? Ill have to call them in the morning. $750 for a 13bt best I could find around here was one in unknown condition for $1000. I hope I dont have to hunt down accessories for it, that would suck.

most come with all the accesories, sometimes not. the will sometimes come with aftermarket stuff to. luck of the draw. people have been known to get aftermarket clutches and flywheels, who knows, maybe a bigger turbo.

We have started offering J-Spec engines through our site. We are operating it under the name QJS Engines (Quality J-Spec Engines) We have access to quite a few really good J-Spec engines. This is the same source that I got my initial engine from for the Project 86. I just bought another engine from them as a spare to the Project 86 since it is now a race only car. We offer pretty competative prices, and we stand behind the motors we sell. It is compression checked before shipping from Japan, and guaranteed to start and have compression when you install it. If it is going to sit for a period of time, you will need to maintain the seals in it so they don't become stuck in the rotors. Check out our page for more info. There are links in the main menu and on the main page.

Yep, read my post The site has more warranty info too. Here is a recap of it:

Warranty:
These engines are sold with a good compression check being done before shipment to you. Sometimes there are circumstances where an engine will need to be exchanged because it just will not run. If that should arise, then we will attend to the customer on a case by case basis so that no one is left feeling cheated. Customer service is our top goal.

A silver-nickel-like heat tab is installed on the block of every engine we sold. If the tab is removed or center is melted (around 255ºF), warranty will be voided. It is the customer's responsibility to check the location of heat tab and make sure it does not fall off during installation.

A new thread was started and brings up a good question. Even a 91 engine is still 10 years old and how do we know that the engines were stored properly during that time???

Because they are guaranteed The guy that I buy these from has been doing this for 26 years. He has only had one customer have a bad motor. They run this thick oil stuff in the engine to keep them good.

Hey "fc3s.org" do you guys sell T2 transmissions also? Looking to buy a 89-91 T2 engine and also a T2 trans, not sure what year yet though. I'm tring to figure out what series T2 trans will be best for my 83.

Also would you know off the top of your head or be able to guess how much it would be to ship one or both a engine and trans (if you even sell transmissions) to MN?

The cost of sending the motor and tranny to MN is about $185. That is for an engine and tranny. We usually have trannies in stock, but check with me at time of purchase to make sure. Engine shipping alone would be about $125. The trannies are the same between series if I'm not mistaken.

I got my motor from Nippon also, theyre good people. I thought I had a stuck seal, that was creating a whine (It was actually a gasket.) But I called them saying my engine made an insane squealing noise, and they told me to have it checked out, and call them back. If something was wrong they would replace it. Well I took it to Mazda, and they told me it was a gasket. I called to tell the guy, and he was relieved, and thanked me for calling him back, he wanted to make sure I was satisfied. Theyre very good people to deal with, and I highly reccomend them. As im writing this, I sit here, now with an engine I blew less then 6 hours ago. Will I call them again? Dunno, depends on Dave's prices. If he gave me a free FC3S sticker Id probably do it I like to support the forum and its members when I can.

I just looked on your site and coulden't find any prices on T2 transmissions (could be blind ) what are you asking for them??

BTW that heat tab is a great idea, tell when some jackass wants his $ back or a new engine because he overheated it, are you the only guys that do this?

What should I go with; J-Spec or rebuild? I know somone that will install the J-Spec in for me for $200. With the engine that'll total around 1100 bucks. I'm looking for longetivity and reliability though, so should is it better for me to pay the extra $1000 for the rebuild or can I trust used engines?
