Opinion of 90 S5 N/A purchase

I have my 86 rx and its fine but I have a chance to get a 1990 vert for less than seven bills, It has the BBS wheels and the body is very clean. Engine sounds good when turned by hand but the transmission is out (he has three) to be re-built and he is tired of the car and just got an EVO. Its an auto, does it sound like a good deal? I want to put the trans in it and give it to my wife.

Thanks

Jesse

From what I can see in the pic, it looks pretty good. But if you haven't actually cranked up the engine yet, I would before buying it. How many miles are on it?

That's a little iffy, but for $700 you can't really go wrong. Since you did hear some compression, it should at least start and run.

Oh, ok, I somehow missed the part about the tranny being out. Anyways, for $700, I'd get it regardless.

I'd get it, but budget for a replacement engine just in case. So if it does end up being bad, you'll be prepared, and if it's good, BONUS!

Ditch the auto slush box first thing, regardless of if the wife can't drive a manual. You'll spend more time rebuilding the tranny than the engine.

One of the three auto trans. that comes with the cars has been re-built (with recipt) he just hasn't put it in yet. He has a bunch of extra parts for it that will come with it:
-3 transmissions
-HID/projector kit
-interior pieces

My buddy and I are putting the trans in useing his lift, it has the S5 rear taillights and it is very clean so I hope it runs I do like it and want to at least drop the top b4 it gets cold.

Does anyone in the Richmond area have a car dollie?
Thanks!

Jesse

hello I am doing a resto on a 1990 vert na I got it for $1900 and it had 142,000 miles on it ,it runs good 5 speed smooth BOTH REBUILT but it had all the other things wrong that the verts have (search )I have spent $2000.00 on the little things (leather seats ,cat ,switchs ) and have $2000.00 +or- to go ,(this does not count DMV anD tax in MA haha) the 1990 vert has parts that are only for that year so do your home work .ie top switch new $400+ if it is an auto I think you should keep it that way 1 ,less work 2 top down put it in drive and go !! also we spend so much time changing rx7 that an original cars are hard to find. that said go for it one more vert on the road is cool .if you do not do this let me know I can use a doner car.
