so besides the fact that she's in debt up to her ***... I'm totally jealous of this girl's new black 3. It's the 2.3L DOHC 4-cyl rated at 160HP with a semi-automatic 4 speed trans (awesome). I haven't gotten to drive it yet b/c I'd have to let her drive my 7 in return, and I'm still thinking that one over

anyway, she's talking a lot of friendly smack, and I want to know if you guys think my bone stock 1990 GXL with ~60k miles on a rebuilt well-running engine could keep up with the new 3. I know she'll have me spanked on the shift times with that semi-auto. I need to replace my shifter bushings anyway, and this would be a good excuse to do it!

hmm it should be close, but launch hard. on my s5 when it was stock i gteched it once and found the best times when you launch at 6.5k to 7k, pretty hard launch but you will fly off the line. although i duno how bad my cluch was but i really didnt have too much wheelspin. hopefully her auto wont let her launch and shell have to play catch up. go for it, i bet with a good launch and perfect shifts i think youll win. but it will be close.

damn man she might take ya but it should be close. another thing has she broken her engine in yet with it all being new and everything if she tries to race it she might blow the damn thing up. we had a guy at the cecil co. dragstrip blow his brand new lightning up. bought it like 4 hrs before he showed up at the track. at the end of his run he let off it and downshifted and **** just blew up. hood and everything blew off, it was crazy.

 

make a bunch of excuses until your car is faster. theres a lot of people that dont understand cars. they understand engines and what power is. you get beat by her and i bet she'll be like "your car sucks, hers is better." and thats that. i love rotaries because of the potential, not their stock characteristics. though, yes, theyre fun stock. so, in conclusion, make excuses or be made fun of by a girl. =D

 

Practice launching, do intake and full exhaust, and let the spanking of that Mazda 3 begin! It'll be slower cuz its auto...

I think it might be a little closer than everybody makes it out to be. Her auto tranny's gears should be pretty slow, so you'll have faster ratios. She's definitely got you beat in the weight department. If you have a few bolt ons, this wouldn't be a problem. Replace your shifter bushings and find out!

This is a sad post...who cares if it's a girl. This is like newbie central (no offense, but look at it) I know you guys have more brains than that.

As for the race I think you can definately win, yes it's got power and torque...but it's also an automatic (power loss) and FWD. Good luck anyway and don't hurt anyone or the cars.

BlackRX7's post is scary, but true.

Its mostly a drivers race at that point. If you've got decent skills, you'll beat her at the launch and pretty much creep away, faster at the top of the gears.

Just race and find out. I'm still trying to get a good race with my friend's 2004 VW Jetta 1.8T going.

So far, just short little races (Pull from 0-70, pull from 0-90, followed by a pull from 55-85) where we hang dead even. Frustrating!

And who says a girl cant race? I've met plenty of girls who know quite a lot about cars.

Race her and report the results! Personally, I've been wondering which would win myself. I'm thinking though that the 7 would have the edge as long as you shift well.

 

Who cares either race or dont, asking people who dont know how well you drive is not going to net you a magical answer.

And be smart and dont hurt anyone.

 

I'll definitely post a follow-up when it's done. I ordered my shifter bushing today and the MT-90 I put in this week is starting to soak in. no date set for this showdown, lol.
