Exclamation One last questions before I drill & tap

D. Drill (7/16in) and tap (1/4in NPT) front cover where shown [See Figure 2 & 3]

E. Install 1/4in NPTx1/2in push lock hose fitting into tapped hole.
This confuses me. I always thought that the size of the tap fitting was larger than that of the hole you drill. Can anyone clear this up? I need to go buy a tapping kit from the hardware store, and I'm confused as to which size to buy.

Does the 1/4" fitting have some sort of heli-coil threaded insert that would justify a 7/16" hole?

If not, I think you've got a typo there...

I'm looking at the little piece that I'm putting in and the thread is about 1/2" across. I don't get it...

Maybe you mean 3/16 drill, or 1/2npt?

Yeah I'm guessing they mean 1/2"NPT, because this little hose fitting they gave me is 1/2" across.

It's an easy check... Get a piece of metal or something else to drill into. Drill a 7/16" hole and tap it with 1/2"NPT and see if the push lock thing goes into the 1/2" instead of 1/4". If it does, that's a typo and you'll know to use 1/2".

Feels good when there's a typo in their instructions for the s/c kit huh? I wonder if anyone else that got one of the first kits screwed up at that part at first.

Yeah, these instructions are really starting to **** me off. There's already a vaccum hose that runs from the bottom of the SC to the fuel pressure regulator that is completely neglected in the instructions. Plus the instructions are little one-liners, with little other explanation and a grand total of 9 pictures for both S4 and S5's.

BTW this oil pan is a bitch and a half to get off.

That's sucks, I'd hope for the price of the kit full and GOOD instructions would be included with lots of pictures...

Oh and the oil pan is super easy to get off when the engine is out of the car

Yeah but the engine's in the car, and also the water pump is on, so the drilling the block part of the installation is nearly impossible. I'm thinking I'll have to find about a 2" long 7/16" drill bit and attatch it to a rotary tool that has a flex shaft. wow.

RX7FROMCAL had his kit put on by his rotary mechanic and it took his mechanic 5 days to get the kit on. Fan-tastic!

Yah I was joking about the engine being out part, I know you're not gonna take it out.

And RX7FROMCAL is a moron, so most likely he has a moron mechanic too.

I may be a newbie but this is no easy ordeal. If you've already removed your emissions stuff, and your car's engine is absolutely flawless, then I'd say it's maybe about 20 hours of labor. I'm going to take the rest of this week and maybe a little bit of next to finish up, mainly because I'm taking my time.
