what about for 3" exhaust? Will a high flow 3" cat pass E? I was curious as well, because I plan on buying the RB turboback exhaust. I also have removed the secondary air injection system (air pump, ACV, AAV, and the sec air injection pipe. My cats hollowed out long before I owned the car...

Edit: I didn't see any on the website, also I didn't notice, but he said he had a RB turboback as well...

look at Racing Beat's web site..I think they have Bonez hi Flo's ..that will take the place of the presilencer..(not 100 per cent on this..so look if you want to make sure..)...they just bolt in ..in place of one another ..(apologies if I'm wrong)

if your in cali...you'll fail automatically by taking the air pump (a.k.a smog pump) off of the vehicle..... and the exhaust has to either be stock, or be c.a.r.b legal...... so a 3" cat will be rendered useless due to the rest of the exhaust system failing the visual inspection

note..... i have no idea how the emissions standards are in canada, modded exhausts might be fine up there, i dont know.... but they dont pass here

Are you talking about a cat with no airpump hooked up to it? I've heard of that not working. However if you hookup the airpump to it you probably would. But in Cali you will fail the visual inspection since its not stock.

most smog techs will overlook the 3" exhaust so long as the rest of the smog equipment is there.

i passed with a 3" turboback exhaust, Bonez HF cat and TID on my car but being a tech has its benefits since it was a fellow tech at the dealer he overlooked the intake and exhaust since they are minor issues.

whatever, like i said it depends on the smog tech, i have known plenty of them. he went over my car completely checking all the eqiupment though like i said, my offenses were minor enough to not worry about.

Karack,
Did your car have "passing emmission levels" without the air pump connected to the cat?

I guess it depends on the tech too...
When I swap my GXL last weekend... he put the front wheel on the dyno and got out of the car to lower it... I said... Erm, it is rear wheel drive...

Last year I actually tried to pass with stock exhaust and failed. I replaced the airpump with one that wasn't making noises (lol) and I passed with really good numbers.

The moral (of at least my story) is that a good air-pump does wonders in helping you pass.

The visual inspections that I've recieved up here in WA (Cali. emissions?) have been pretty non-existant. It helps that it's a rotary I suppose, because people have no idea what they're looking at.

Mine did, 3" highflow in Dallas. After removing the air injection system, you'll probably have to run the airpump straight to the cat.

LOL, tell me about it. I took mine in last month and the guy drove the car onto the wheel dyno forwards, but one of the other techs throws his hands up in the air and starts waving them and says "its rear-wheel drive!"

How bad would that suck! Sitting in the waiting room waiting for the results. Huge crash from the garage. Manager walks in and says "I've got some bad news for ya" "What, my car didn't pass?" "Oh it passed, right over the dyno and passed right through the back wall of our shop!"

I have a RB header to bonez hi-flow cat with the air pump hooked up to it... I know the header won't pass visual and I think they know I had 2 cats stock and only 1 now but I think my hi-flow is enough to pass the sniffer. So I need to find somewhere that doesn't pay much attention to visual, just sniffer.

I've always wondered, do they have a picture book or something of what it's supposed to look like? I mean, obviously a shiny new stainless system didn't come from the factory, but if it's mild steel or aluminized and you smeared some mud on it or something, is the average emissions guy REALLY going to be able to tell? Especially if they're driving it onto the dyno the wrong way.

Besides, I thought replacing cats and exhaust was allowed if the car had more than 50,000 miles and the previous system was malfunctioning or something, as long as the new one also passes emissions.

I think you can, but the thing is, you have to have the same ammount of aftermarket cats as the car came with stock. So me having 1 cat but it coming with 2 will fail visual but will probably pass sniffer. I think they have a check book and it tells them how many cats the car has.
