Okay so it sat since 2000

I just bought a 88' FC the guy bought it for parts for his car but he wrecked his and lost intrest. He got it as a basket case a bunch of the stuff under the hood was in the back of the car...so he knew little of it. I dolly it home and discover the radiator was busted...typical crack along the plastic resivors...well I put a battery on it and it fires up after sitting six year and runs..it smokes like mad but I'm told that it'll clear out once it runs...and others tell me I'll have to pull it and replace the seals...because they hardened from sitting...anyone know a way to soften thoes rotor seals or do I gotta pull it? Also it takes a few seconds to build up oil pressure runs around 45 PSI ...and whats the normal oil pressure to run? I haven't gotten the new radiator yet so I haven't run it for any length of time...it takes a while to start but once you get it started the first time its pretty easy to get it running again once its shut down...it won't idle but thats probably because of the fact none of the air tubes to the throttle body has clamps on it...they weren't in the trunk...along with the hose from the air tube to the back of the intake. But yea it runs good dosen't miss while throttleing up or anything.

wow... starts right up after 6 years

as for the seals, if it runs all right, the you dont have a problem (im assuming that it stopped smoking)

I have an 86 GX that has not run in 5 years, needed fuel pump, coils and an ECU I just got her running only a few days ago.. it too smokes something fierce however being the Oil is right full of gas to the point you almost cant call it oil anymore, it is belived to be the cause of the smoking, hopefully doing an oil change tomorrow on it and then will run it for aprox 10min + and see if it clears up..

if it clears up great and if not well then its likely a rebuild left as the only option.

ps. can someone tell me if running it with the oil diluted with gas can harm it and how so? I'm a little confused seeing as the cars can run premix?.

Premix and diluted oil are two completely different things.

Gas (where premix is present) is always present in the combustion chamber only. It is burned off almost the second it is injected. It is present just long enough for it to be burned. The 2-stroke premix(oil), however, does not completely burn, and therefore stays behind to coat the seals.

Oil...is present all around the engine, and is NOT burned off in the combustion chamber. Some of it is (injected by the OMP, hence adding 1 quart / 1000 miles), but for the most part, all of that oil must be lubricating the engine internals, so there is not metal-on-metal contact. Getting gas into this oil makes it next to useless, as gas...doesn't lubricate. It in fact does just the opposite.

Got an oil stain on the garage floor? Pour some gas on it, and it eats the oil right off the floor. Hence - inside the engine - the gas eats the oil, as in..makes it..not-present..anti-lubrication..
