the Haynes says mazda classifies a rebuild as having, "Rebuilt engine-A rebuilt engine consists of the eccentric shaft, rotors and houstings, oil pump, sprockers and chain, water pump and oil metering pump. All components are installed with new bearings, seals, and gaskets incorporated throughout. The installation of manifolds and external parts is all thats necessary"
Well mine is a "certified Mazda remanufactured motor," and it only has 15K on it and Im gonna drive my car to Flordia from here in a couple months which is 1500 miles away. I was worried about my metering pump, but according to what Mazda labels a rebuild it should be ok, right? then why did my base intake gasket blow last week?!? I just want to be sure my car will make it to FL, and after reading Mazda's rebuilt engine section it sounds like shell be ok. what do you guys think?

BREAK IT IN!!!! Do not go out and hammer it, make sure not to let it reach much more than 4.5K for the first 100 miles or so. Than just up it a little bit for the next 100. Than just redline the **** out of that Wankel and woolaa. Make sure you drive the car at/for a steady half an hour for each interval, you can't redline it so you can't remove all that damn carbon build-up.
I'm not even sure what the mazda rebuild comes with. I bet the OMP is the same one off your old engine and was swapped over by the guy who did the install. you may have gotten a new water pump. but I wouldn't be surprised if that was just swaped over too. driving it the 1500 miles will be no different then driving it every day. if it's been fine in the past. I'm sure it'll be fine now.
yeah, i'll be fine man....i've had my mazda rebuild for the past 3 years and put about 25K on it in that time. and that has consisted of about 20 7 hour trips......its been perfect...no problems at all

the mazda remans come with:
new water pump
new thermostat
resurfaced fylwheel
all seals are new (apex, side, oil etc)
all new gaskets (water o rings, oil pan, oil o rings)
they also replace the out of spec parts, ie if it needs a rotor housing it gets a rotor housing.
some of the side housings are sent back to japan to be milled and renitrided.
the engines do NOT come with a metering pump, or the intake manifolds, fuel injectors, clutch, spark plugs or engine mounts.
the metering pump unless you paid to have it peplaced is the old one.
the bad lower intake gasket was replaced when the motor was put in
